I'm canning for the winter and for the next 2 years on jams and jellys. My tomatoes are not going to make ripe in time to jar.......:( It is getting cold here and the the plants that came up volunteer are at least 2 weeks from being red and ready) The ones I planted on-time got curly leaf from the hoppers. I am sooooo going to miss canned tomatoes this winter :-1

We don't have anything to can here. It was TERRIBLE garden weather. Our eggplants aren't even the size of my fists.

You know even with our terrible drought we had a very fruitful year (boo). I canned and froze fruit all summer. Have three bushels of apples on back porch and another bushel still on tree. Our tomatoes were nothing but vines except when the hormworms got into them. We have tomatoes coming on now, if it doesn't freeze, frost or snow before Christmas we will have tomatoes. In Ill. not likely.

nvalleyvee, I wished I could give you some tomatoes. Our garden was very productive this year despite the dry weather. Am still picking huge tomatoes and have been giving them away left and right. The plants are so lush and green, which is surprising for this time of year. Have about a bushel of them right now that need taken care of this week-end. I grew cabbage this year and made saurkraut with it, in a crock. Got that canned a a few weeks ago.

You know, you can pick the green ones (or ones with a tinge of color)

and store them... let me check my Stocking Up book for the method... I

believe you use excelsior or newspaper or something. And I can send

you my recipe for Green Tomato Parmigiana if you like!

Yes, I know they can be picked green and wrapped but the problem is...where to store them all???? Yes! Please do, send that recipe. I usually make a green tomato jam with some of the green ones. Folks never guess that it's made from green tomatoes! Good way to use some of them too.
