Just thought I'd look in here this forum was mentioned in another forum that I post in.

Though I'm a stranger to most of you, some of the regulars here might already know and love me.

My main interests are drinking beer, eating curry and videogaming. I've also been around the UK custom biking/club scene for most of my adult life, though I've taken leave of this of late and am saving my chop for my impending mid-life crisis.

I guess it's quite similar to the U.S. though not so Harley orientated and with crappy twisty roads and even crappier weather.

Mind you, a lot of people like the twisty roads - I'm not one of them.

Well, you say "bike scene"; is that clubs, squids, crotch rocket riders, or what? From the little info I get about bikers from the other side of the pond, it's pretty different, actually.

I'm assuming from your "crappy twisty" comment, you're a crotch rocket rider? Straight, flat super-slabs?

Actually, 'crotch rockets' (I'm assuming you're referring to race style bikes?) are the ones built for going round corners fast.

And though the engine in this (the only pic I can find easily at the moment) was originally in one of those things, it now lives in a rigid frame with 10" overs and a stainless steel plate for a seat.

As far as clubs go, we have much the same mc club scene as you, though probably stricter as Britain is a lot smaller than the U.S.

There's one big difference right there. Crotch rockets, (yes, race-style or also known as "cafe" bikes) are favored here strictly for speed. Super slabs, super fast, super straight. Super boring, in my opinion.

Stricter how, and what M/C's are you familiar with?

But race style bikes are built to handle-don't get me wrong, I don't like the things either but there's no denying the fact that they're are built for both speed performance and handling performance - anyone denying that is looking through a pair of extremely blinkered bro shades.

As far as 'stricter' goes, (not that I'm familiar with the U.S. scene) but you can't just start up a back patch club over here, territories are a lot smaller and established clubs don't appreciate other patch clubs suddenly appearing.

The last club I was in (I was mainly in various 'side patch' clubs beforehand) was the Chopper Club - between '95 & '98, a fairly well known European custom bike club.

I don't deny anything, only stating that here, the vast majority of crotch rocket riders are ignorant, uneducated, speed-freak children with a death wish. I'm quite capable of handling my bike through twistys and hazards better than the twits on crotch rockets. We don't call them "organ donors" for no reason.

OK, here there is no "starting up" any club, branch or auxilliary, new M/C or anything resembling such a thing without permission from the dominant club in the state. Trying a move like that without permission could find you on the wrong side of the dirt.

Ok, so we're NOT talking M/C's, but riding clubs. I assume your "back patch" club is what our M/C is. Such as the Outlaws, Vigilantes or Hell's Angels. True bikers, not a social club.

I was with a MC club when I was in the '80's and with other clubs before & after.

Yeah, by backpatch I mean MC mainly, though the Chopper Club was/is one of the few non MC backpatch clubs allowed to exist in the UK.

I had some bloody good times with them and only left due to family obligations.

One thing I've noticed though is that wherever you're from, there's always some form of 'snobbery' involved where bike clubs are concerned.

Uhh, no. Patch holders are shown the utmost respect from other patch holders. Even members from rival clubs are given respect. The heirarchy and governing clubs here do not allow that sort of club bashing. Aren't the M/C's there self-policing?

I guess so, but there's a hierarchy thing going on, hard to describe really, I think there are regional variations.

Some areas are more laid back than others.
