This is serious news. It is amazing that a country 1/5 the size of Oregon can have such a significant international impact.

Clint the BBC has just had a two parter on the Middle East peace process and it was riveting, how the film maker got the access I will never know, shots of Arafat laughing about his "Prime Ministers" resignation, mossad guys planning and carrying out the killing of Hamas leaders, Colin Powell saying which bits of the Raod Map GWB understood and those he did not. the bottom line was that this will never ever go away, get rid of Hamas and the Al Axa (sic) or another mob will take over. Any moderate Israeli Prime Minister will face revolt and may even forfiet his/her life. I just see it going on and on endlessly

When I visited Israel I didn't understand why all the fuss. It only took a little over a week for me to tell someone that there was never going to be a political solution to the problem. The leaders including the U.S. and others can make all the plans they want but the people there have their own mind and they aren't about to change their mind. The only thing that will allow them to carry out their lives without excess violence is a strong handed leader who puts a lid on things when they start to erupt.

I saw that documentary on BBC and it was excellent (DO NOT LET THE GOVERNMENT SCREW UP THE BBC PLEASE!!!). Despite the seming intractability of the conflict there will be a settlement one day, but how it will b achieved is anyone's guess. Probably the U.S. and EU doing the good cop, bad cop routine that they seem so fond of. There's no doubt that the Palestianians are being shafted, but considering what the President of Iran said today I can understand why the Israelis feel so threated sometimes.
