Been shopping..........HOW CAN CERTAIN SO CALLED CHEAP SUPERMARKETS JUSTIFY THEIR INCREASES FGS:-5:-5Ok its price check time.

Small bottles of sparkling flavoured water......last week....20p a bottle or 6 bottles for £1.......NOT on special .....normal price.

THIS WEEK....32p A BOTTLE OR £1.49 FOR 6...I see an increase over 50% on these bottles...............why??

I bought 3litres of semi skimmed milk in a freezer shop...£1.50.....same Supermarket as water.....70p more expensive............why??

LARGE eggs..pack of 10 at butchers...89p.....same ones in Supermarket...also not free range....£2.49......why??

Famous brand of Baked Beans in the 99p shop....4 tins for the said 99p....Supermarket price £1.79.....why??And so the list goes on....and on....

Now I dont know about you guys but I feel here in England we are being taken for a ride regarding some of our food and taking it for granted we have to pay more at the moment....ok dont shop in these places you may say....but some things you need and some cant always make it to cheaper places through circumstances.Just makes me so angry seeing these prices knowing on some items we are just being taken for a ride.....I also go to warehouses myself and see some increases....but trust me when I say nothing like we as consumers are paying.

chezz was sayin the same thing about where she had fish and chips............. it cost her £34. in our place it would have been just over £18.

im ashamed to say there are a lot of places down here that take advantage of holiday makers. they seem to forget that, once fleeced of their money, they dont come back next year !! so they are cutting their own throats.

Depends on where you go and when you go there. See in my shop we put prices of some products up one week and then they might go down the next week but other products will rise to counterbalance and overall they just keep going up as there are lots of products to choose from.

some times folk make a stand and it works,i recall in the 60s beef went to a pound a pound, the wives in the country stopped buying beef, the price soon stopped, then if a country took liberties with another country in any way they would "black" that countries produce,it always had an effect.

I think the UK supermarkets are doing a wonderful job, myself. We can compare prices if that helps. Asda's regular price for Strength 4 Dark Roast Filter-Ground Vacuum-Packed Coffee in one pound packs is £3.60 a kilo (that's £1.63 or US$2.89 a pound), it tastes pretty good to me and lasts me a month. Anyone else want to play prices, or have I not got the hang of the thread?

I always try to go to the what I call the "dent/smash section" of the store. Dented boxes of cereal, etc. for way cheap prices. Grab every box of cereal. Hey, my kids don't care because it's gone in a week:wah:

Asda sells Jeans for £3.....I remarked that if I bought them and sent them cross country by mail it would cost more than that for postage.....How do they do that ?

Some prices in the big super markets are to pull you in, the eggs and Beans and other 'staples' are cheap, so you dont notice the other over priced items.

Then they have 'Offers' of non basics to keep you interested, that can be low for a week, only to rise the following week. If you could go from super market to super market and choose all the cheapest in each you might save some dosh......Mind you it is always the same basics that are bargains, the things you buy every week,
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth
