Flea markets Rummage sales

I just LOVE them:-4 This morning a near by town had a city wide sale. this happens once a year. I found a singer iron sewing machine stand. with a marble top for $15. also 2 new ceiling fans still in the box. $5 each. Next weekend will be the annual antique city wide sale. ooooo i REALLY love that one!! :-4 You never know what you will find. One man's junk, is another man's treasure:)

Hubby and I enjoy going to Flea-Markets. Sometimes we do find something unusual at a good price. We also like to "people watch". We have found, however, that the flea markets have grown smaller with booths in the last couple of years. The high price of gas probably has hindered many from bringing their merchandise to the market.

I also love the flea market which they have near me once a year. It's combined with all the farmers selling their fresh produce. I have been looking for some time now for solid oak stools for my breakfast bar. Guess what????? I found 4 of them brand new and paid $20! I aslo love antique jewlery and found a lovely necklace for $5! I bought fresh veggies and maple syrup and had the most fun I've had in a long time. Can't wait for next year :wah:

The flea markets here now are all junk.

What I do enjoy are yard sales or garage sales that folks who own homes have..........what is someone else's junk, is someone else's treasure, and if you get there at 7am when they first start.........you can get huge deals!

When I go to a yard sale or garage sale, I wait for the last day. That way what ever is left over they are going to sell it to you for all most free :wah:

They only have them for one day here.....but the next day they are out with the garbage.......free pickins!:wah:

We had our garage sale last summer, made over 500.00...............sweet!:sneaky:

Around here they have them Saturday and Sunday. I'd love to be the garbage collector when they put unsold items to the curb :wah:

Speaking of, I used to go out with a sanitation man, you would not believe what ends up at the dump, the great stuff he used to bring home!:sneaky:

I adore these.

Here, we call them car boot sales but people turn up with Trailers full.

Mr Oscar buys antique fishing rods & reels, ( Webster, & Abu his favourites should any one care :yh_hypno) & sells them on e bay. Mr Oscar is on line as we speak arguing with an editor from an Angling magazine.

One man's junk is another mans money they say here.

What is the greatest find you have got at a sale?

for me, as a huge fan of "The Rolling Stone's" since a child, i found an album "High Tide and Green Grass" from the 60's. It had the original pics of the band in totally mint condition. I could do well on e bay but i'd never part with it, nor play it for fear of damaging it.

My heart was racing when i found it in a pile of other oldie's. I asked the stall holder "How much mate". The truth is, if he'd have asked me for £100, i would have paid it -- i wanted it that badly. I was trying so hard not to let him see i was really lit up over it. He said "Oh, give me £3"

I felt dead mean -- he just didn't know what he had.

Love Garage Sales - Estates Sales - I'm a junker...

I had a garage sale this Thurs, Fri. & Sat...

I've had many in the past - This one was different in the way I had to Do alot of sales pitching. alot of pitching to the public & lower prices than normal.

Made @ $1000.00..alot of work - I hurt all over....

Oscar - the best treasure I think of right now - was jewlery.

I bought a bag of yarn - inside the yard some one had hidden jewlery in the skeins of yarn - one of my better deals...

Odie - we have garbage pick-up 2 @ week - I'll get in our Golf Cart and ride aroud to see what's being thrown out & sitting next to the curb - amazing what I'll find.

My last treasure from" dumpster diving" - a old 1960's record player in a little case.. ( I had one when I was a kid)

The case is @ the size for roller skates. I love it.

I collect Vintage clothes (right now), I really like estate sales.

I don't do Malls either - can't get me to one.

years ago when my daughter was young i was a single parent. I supplemented my income by having garage sales. I would go around for a couple months buying items i know i could make a profit on. Many times this would pay my rent. which was a God send.

I never made a huge amount. But every little bit would surely help.

tis always good to seak out others garbage!

how well I remember the pain, it took us a week, just to get everything outside, we covered it all up, way way to much stuff to bring up on the actual day..................and even the pain of that day, and the cleanup!

but as said, 500.00 was worth it!

you did even better, I should have held stronger in the beginning....things I have learnt for next time!

plus it was an extremely hot day, being out from 7 am until 4, was hell!

at one sale, did buy for 15.00 a wrought iron bench, its an older style, brand new!

I collect Vintage clothes (right now), I really like estate sales.

BBQ---3 burner for 20.00, practically brand new, neighbour was moving into a condo, great finds and deals, things you have never seen before!

it was so hot Thurs. 102, I thought I was going to pass out.

I would jump in our pool - & come back out to sell - I didn't care how Pretty I looked - I was dying.....and we usually close the sale @ 1:00 each day.

and Yes Odie, I started setting up on Monday for the sale starting Thurs.

The big thing in the midwest is dumpster diving. There was a big articale in our newspsper telling about this guy who daily goes dd. He goes mostly around the state unversity campus. Kids that have money and no consciense. He found a high grade vacumn cleaner still in its box. He not only takes home the good stuff he takes the plastics and recycles it. His wife says their house has a lot of stuff that he found in dumpsters. Bedding etc. She has asked him to quit bringing home washer detergent as she has enough for over a year. My first computer was a composite of several computers that other students had tossed. My son who was studing computer design made one for himself and after he got a job gave it to me. I used it for three years. He says a really good time to dd on campus is when the seniors are cleaning out as they are graduating. He says clothles that he could never afford while in college are there for the taking. The seniors know they are going on to a different world and MOM certainly doesn't want them.

My favorite pastime on a Saturday morning with Quin. We go early if the weather is good and have fun. Don't do flea markets, too expensive. Yard sales are our thing and thrift stores are always great for kids clothes and Halloween costumes. Also, I got a giant ornament and hung it from the ceiling fan over the kitchen table. Never took it down and just dust it every week.

in england we have car boot sales,i think they origenated from over the pond,we put all our stuff in the boot of the car and flog asap,we now have new retail goods on sale too.i have found some bargains the best of which was some ceramic door knobs ,i was looking for months i couldnt find em even in new shops!then i saw a dealer selling 16 of em!how much i asked with 007 coolness.3 quid he said!i almost dragged his arm from its socket!!stuttered spluttered and done the deal.i used the 8 i wanted and have 8 for when i get rich and buy a big mansion.incidently the new retail price for them was 7 quid each!102 quid and i got em for 3!!

and 1 collection leads to another...

If you collect older item - drive thru your retirement community's for garage sales & Estate sales-. Now with the difficult times will we all face - there will be alot of sales everywhere.

My whole Home, inside & out - is furnaced from Garage - thrift - Estate Sales & Dumpster Diving, and I'm proud of it, I love the hunt for the treasure or solution to display other collections, I look outside the norm..,

cause I've turned junk into jewlery...

You wouldn't be complaining receiving this present..

I bought alot of jewlery from a Company going out of business - found this on my way to a Garage Sale..

All Adult Females in my Family will receive @ 25 to 40 pairs of new earrings & some kids..

I plan on posting them on a LG board - like your getting a BathRobe..

Each EARRING cost me @ 39 cents. I have @ 6 ladies in the Family..

What a cool fine..

I had a huge selection to choose from - I 'm telling Ya, I'm going back for the final close out..

That's a huge score. I can see why you're done! We found something like that about 10yrs ago. A drug store was moving to a new location and they didn't want inventory to take with them. We got there as they were marking all the toys at 25 cents....Barbies and everything. Needless to say we stacked up 2 shopping carts and had enough kid presents for 2 years! :wah:

I sold alot of the Earrings at My Garage Sale this Past Weekend for $2.00 each.

I find alot of deals like this - I usually don't have the money when the deal comes along..

This particular shop closes Dec. 08 - I received a coupon for a additional 40% off already reduced prices.. so now I'll have to go back..?

You know the 0ld saying one man's junk is another man's treasure. Well today a dear friend of mine and i went to a huge antique/collectibles sale. We had a ball!! 2 years ago we went at the time i had a ford bronco. We looked like the Beverly hillbillies going down the high way coming home. the tail gate was open. stuff hanging out. stuff tied on top. WOW it was great!! this time we had a lot less $$ but still had fun,. More room too:wah:. i like , well just say unusual things in my yard. Today i bought a old timer push mower. A wheel barrel. with a iron wheel. Very old. Also my great find. a 1930's Philco Radio for $7!! it will look great in my den:)

Didn't get to any yard sales today:( but did go to the kiddie thrift store and got Quin 4 pairs pants/4 shirts all for the grand sum of $20 Also picked up socks for him at .50 cents each pair.

We have a place called Plato's Closet here that sells to teens. It's a lifesaver on my pocketbook. They always want "new" stuff, but it's outrageously overpriced and I'm not opening the wallet for that.

know what you mean. when i was a teenager. as long as your jeans dragged the ground. and were flared. it did not matter what brand they were. or where you bought them. Bought a lot from Army surplus. Like $6 at the time, THAT was MANY MOONS ago:wah:

I went into her room the other day and the smell almost knocked me out. Stinky dirty clothes all over the floor. PU!
