Was this unnecessary?

Post by actionfigurestepho »

I had a wee bit of a fender bender today. I wouldn't even call it a fender bender. I bumped some guy's truck (for the record his truck was hanging way out of his parking space) and he got a little bit of mint green (from my car) on his black bumper, which didn't even have a dent on it. I gave him my insurance info and my contact info, assuming that because this was something a $10 bottle of touch up paint could repair, he'd probably just call the insurance company for a quote and ask me for a check, which I offered to send him.

What person would want to go through an insurance company and raise their rates when they could solve it for $15 and not have to pay a higher premium each month?

The guy reported this to our insurance.

So now both of us are going to be paying more every month because of it. He didn't even have a DING. It was some PAINT. MY paint, not even HIS paint!

I'm extremely peeved about this. Why can't we do anything without getting involved in some sort of bureaucracy?! I'm normally a very honest person but I'm finding that I wished I'd just run across to the store, bought some paint, dropped it in his car, then left.

Grrrrrrrr!

It's not even like his truck was nice! It was a FARM truck for crying out loud! When I was a farmer girl I used to get made fun of if I was driving a clean, non-scratched vehicle.

And driving a mint green car is kind of like my own theft deterrent system. Who's going to steal a mint green escort?

That sucks, doesn't it! Were you able to talk to this guy and let him know that if he reports - both of you were going to pay?

Sorry to hear about it!

i tried to explain "writing a check once" versus "going through paperwork" but he gave me the kind of blank stare I usually get when someone assumes I'm 17 and don't know what I'm talking about. I totally should have played up my kidney excuse. I should have burst into tears and showed him the bandages on my chest and started sobbing about how I have to pay for dialysis and how I can't afford insurance premiums and I have to buy a kidney...or maybe I should have just shown him a little leg. Being a girl is tricky.

Puddy tat (LC) you could learn from Stepho, its much more prudent to seductively flash various body parts than to shove a 9 mm down someones throat.

Can we work on this honey ?

His insurance rates would not necessarily be increased because of an accident. Mine would not.

Actually I kind of like LC's approach! it's just that I have almost no depth perception (the reason I hit him in the first place, probably) and I'd probably have just taken off an ear or something. And then where would I be?

I should have pulled a "Fried Green Tomatoes" move and just rammed the crap out of his truck. It's not like he wasn't going to call insurance anyway.

Well, I was heating my crack pipe while trying to keep my unlicensed pit bull from slobbering all over the hitchiker I had tied up in the back seat, and darned if you know it my ligher burned my thumb! I swore and jerked my arm and my rifle went off, causing me to veer into this guy's bumper. You know, your usual average fender bender.

If it truly was just paint transfer, a little bit of rubbing compound would

probably have taken it right off, and if it had been me I woulda just said

heck with it, have a nice day!

-I truly empathize with you, last spring, I was working in the pharmacy 12 hour shift, and this mid age blonde, comes in oops I think I hit your car, the people up front said they thought it was yours, YEP , she hit my PARKED, car, now I know that was difficult for her to do, so why didnt I just drop it? $2500.oo in damage is why and this is the best part, dont blink, she is on high risk insurance, (do ya think)

This was in March , it was her third accident since January, and oh love this even more guys, her ins. cancelled!!!! Stuck with the bill , I then thought hey sue her, single mom, on her own etc. One of my sons teachers.

It just doesnt get better than that. All because I was at work , I should have just stayed home, that day, oh, and now her daughter works up front, my, my ,my the apple doesnt fall far from the tree.

We should all just stay home, then we can do this all day ! We can have coffee and pastry and close the drapes so no one knows were in here. We can order pizza and Chinese take out and if someone slams into our car it wont matter because were never going out there again. :-6
