Canadian Woman Gives Birth to 18th Child
Monday, July 28, 2008
A Romanian immigrant has given birth to her 18th child in British Columbia, making her the province's most prolific mother in 20 years.
Proud dad Alexandru Lonce said Saturday that his 44-year-old wife, Livia, gave birth on Tuesday. Their daughter Abigail weighed in at seven pounds, 12 ounces.
"We never planned how many children to have. We just let God guide our lives, you know, because we strongly believe life comes from God and that's the reason we did not stop the life," said Alexandru Lonce.
The couple immigrated to Canada from Romania in 1990 and now lives in Abbotsford, British
Columbia. Their 17 other children range in age from 20 months to 23 years old. Lonce said he did not know if the couple would have more children.
The family now has 10 girls and eight boys.
"We would have liked a boy to be even," he said. "We thank God all of them are healthy and happy."
Lonce said the family has received calls from Germany, Romania and England, as well as from media outlets across Canada.

I can't imagine how her uterus sustained that much pressure. No thanks and we stopped at 4.

I can't imagine having that many children but they seem happy with their family.

That woman is only 44 yet to me, she looks every bit of 55. I would imagine that much birthing would take its toll. I too can't imagine how her uterus withstood all that. Unless maybe she had some or all by Cesarean. I can't help but wonder why they didn't just adopt some kids who didn't have a home. Instead of making a whole bunch of their own.

It's hard enough with 4 children to think about. Clothing, feeding, etc. Jeez, so glad we didn't have any more. I mean somebody actually asked me the other day, "are you having any more"? No way!:wah:

It gets easier after a while - the older ones look after the younger ones and they all have their assigned tasks.

Mum does look tired but lets face it it's not the healthiest existance in Romania.
Could you imagine if someone passed a law on how many children a woman is "allowed' to have? isn't there a law in China? 1 child per family.::-3

I feel sorry for the older children...why should they always be taking care of the younger ones because their parents keep having babies...unfair to me

Totally agreed, Kathy Ellen. Kids aren't their parents' live-in nannies. I've been trying to find the word for this that I keep thinking of and the closest I can come up with is "overconsumption." I think it's just sort of gross and obnoxious to have that many kids.

Well, what will happen when she finally gives birth to a child who is not healthy? The unterus was not made to belt out that many children in my opinion.

Yeah....if that's the case. This may come out completely wrong but you know how in the abortion arguments, someone always says "There are people who can't have kids and it's a slap in their face to abort when they can't have any!" (Never understood this but whatever.) Anyway that's close to how I feel about this. If you want that many kids, why not foster some or adopt some who have no family? It's like...flaunting. I don't know how many is "too many" but I think this would fall under tha tcategory.

I don't see that at all...
I see no difference in one child and 20...
Every mother loves every child of hers...I just don't see the problem at all...In fact,..I thinks it's incredibly wonderful...

Well, it looks like they lost five because there are only 13 kids in the picture. Which I guess is easy to do when you have that many.
