I will get a kidney in 3-6 months!!!
I just got back from my new nephrologist. Originally they were trying to convince me that my operation could take a long time and that 3-6 months wasn't going to happen.
I happen to have a bit of an "in" when it comes to the media and the marketing of kidney transplants among certain rival hospitals in my area, and when pressured I reluctantly (wink) let them know this, warning them that it was supposed to be "confidential."
Suddenly the counselling and the irrelevant tests they wanted me to re-do were gone. I don't need to do any more hoops, and my likely donors are going to start getting tested. My surgery time window is 3-6 months, just like that! I'm getting a kidney!

Thanks guys. My little brother's going to get his blood drawn on Monday to see what's up...we're hoping he's the match because he's in the best shape and brothers and sisters share DNA, but it won't be the end of the world if he's not. It's still exciting though!

A friggin month!
My cousin got tested last Monday, God bless him. I called him crying (after a wee bit of gin, mind you) and thanked him for wanting to give me "the gift of life." How embarassing! Let's hope my brother or cuz can donate so that I don't go making an arse of myself to anyone who isn't actually related to me!
JAB, as far as hospitals, I'm not ashamed to say that it's the Cleveland Clinic I'm having problems with. I am assuming the reason they're number six in nephrology is because all their patients probably either die or switch hospitals before they actually have the surgery so their actual operation success rate is pretty high...not that I'm bitter. Yes, they are slow. Overpriced and slow as molassas.
