fuzzy butt;1030085 wrote: I have grounded my teenage son (sunday night)

And I was thinking about it today as to why I felt so bad about it ...then it bloody well struck me!!!!....................He managed to turn the whole thing around on me

Here's the story . We had the rescue chopper and police and amboes down here on Sunday and both my litttle 'rubber necks' went down to the pier to see what was going on.

Anyway, one came back ( the youngest, he apparently didn't want to see someone he imagined to be covered in blood or drowned....fair enough ) But Brett decided to remain there . This was at 3 pm. I didn't see him again until 8:30 pm. so when he eventually got home i ran through why he was grounded.

Riding his bike without a helmet

Not coming back home to check in

Coming home in the dark

Missing dinner

Not cleaning his room like he was supposed to

Not helping me put heavy rubbish out (his brother did it instead) Meanwhile he's out scavanging moto bike mags from someone elses pile of rubbish.

Not telling me where he was going after the boating accident .

Basically he stuffed up!!!!!

So we get to the grounding and I go through the list as to why he was grounded .

He has somehow managed to turn the whole thing around on me.

Apparently I left his watch at his dads house, and that's why he came home in the dark *HUH?* then He apologised and I was rude and didn't accept his apology

and kept telling him off. and get this !!! "that's not very good Parenting" WTF?:-2

Then I was the mean one because i wouldn't allow him to get something to eat because he missed dinner................It was bed time . !!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

It's Wednesday and his room still isn't clean ..................I'm sure i'm going to need a tetnas shot just to enter the room!!!!! He came home from school monday afternoon and tried to bargain with me as to when the grounding ends.......*slaps forehead* ahhhh remember those days. But i understand why you were soooo worried. with many teenagers never being seen alive again. They feel they are invincible. Not understanding how fragile life really is. The dangers that lerk everywhere these days. Stick to your guns. It is not easy. But there is rules to follow no matter how old we get. Sometimes for a teenagers that is one of the HARDEST lessons to learn. GOOD LUCK

I have approx 40 nephews and niece's in my family, the majority being teenagers. All of them are great kids and a credit to their family. Most work or are in apprenticeships etc (bar one rogue one, but that's another story).

Although they are fantastic teenagers, they do suffer the strops every now and then.

The most common thing that comes out of their mouths then is "Yeah..Whatever!! :-5

Christmas presents are a nightmare as well. Just as you think you know what they like, they change fashion

I've been thru this with 2 daughters that were grounded most of the time, and now my 16yr old is a piece of cake. For some reason on the few instances where I have had to ground her, I always feel guilty and it's hard to stick to the grounding...but it has to be done.

When i was a stroppy teenager, the one punishment that really hurt me, was my dad would confiscate my "Rolling Stones" records for a week.... ouch :guitarist

I was lucky that I didnt get grounded, Mum could be frightening enough when she was mad at you, and if you got Dad mad, well bloody duck for cover. You stick to what you said girl, if you dont he will play on it later at some time, thinking he can get away with it. All kids need discipline, even teenage boys, self discipline is harder to attain though, threaten to join him up with the army if he doesnt behave :) :sneaky:

I hear ya Mags..It's hard raising kids today. I don't have children of my own, but I did help raise 3 of my 5 nieces and nephews for ALL of their formative years.:-6 It was exhausting, expensive and mind-boggling

But, somehow we all survived and are best friends:-4. When we're together they laugh at their childhood antics  ............I'm not laughing:-2:lips: :wah:

That is why i feel kids disrespect their elders today. Everybody wants to be their kid's friend and parent comes 2nd. NOPE that does not work. now that my child is entering into her late 20's we are friends. but that mother/ daughter thing is still there.

Yes, some adults have this need to be friends before becoming a good role-model for kids.

Unfortunately, my family members were not able to care for their children at this time due to personal problems. Someone had to step in ...and that person was me. Thank goodness that I was able to help them survive.

They're all doing well now with good jobs and 2 with stable homes of their own. The 3rd child is still struggling but on the road to success.:-6

We just have to constantly be there for our kidlets...always firm, strong, understanding, loving.......we know the drill:-6

No Southern Yankee....you did not upset me at all. I know what a good person you are:-6

I just wanted to clarify the fact that I stepped into this family situation...only... because my nieces and nephews needed help while their parents dealt with life. Someone who loved them had to be there for them:-4

well i said i could tell ya things about when my daughter when she was a teen. Well when she was a teen in fact 15. her and bunch of friends, decided to runaway to MEXICO> So the only one that had a van. Took off with the bunch of RUNAWAYS. well they made it 25 miles to a PRIVATE LAKE. There they were hot no air conditioning in the JUNKEY VAN:wah: Anyway, they got the bright idea of going SKINNY DIPPING. Well they were arrested. i and 4 or so other parents got the call. I WAS PISSED!! well when i got to the police station. Which i took my dear sweet time getting there. I could hear her LAUGHING in the back. So i looked at the Officer and said in a loud voice . You can keep her!! i heard Momma Momma!! So i walked outside with the officer. I said. She has learn a lesson. so i sat across the street at the Mc Donald's for 2 hours. While they had her picking up TRASH in the Parking lot of the Police station. I saw her, But she did not see me. Well i waited another 45 minutes it was close to 10pm. I walked in. The officer said he was filling out paper work to ship her to JH. OMG!!! She turned as white as a sheet. After I let her squirm and sweat another 30 mins. i took her frighted BUTT home. Sometimes it takes extreme measures to get a teen's attention:wah::wah:
