The Great Raid

Post by Lon »

I saw this flick this afternoon. Best WW 2 film since "Saving Private Ryan". The film is based on a true account of the successful rescue of 511 U.S. soldiers being held in a Japanese camp in the Phillipines towards the end of WW 2, 1945.

Far Rider wrote: Lon, read the book Ghost Soldier by Hampton Sides. It's an awesome account of the raid. This raid is held up as a model of leadership and operational planning in Ranger School. I saw on the Military channel a special on it. I recommend the Book and the special. BTW the Doctor (romance plot) in the movie is fictitious. I have not seen the movie yet.

Thanks for mentioning the book. I just ordered it.
