Fad Diets

Post by Lon »

I don't get it, forgive me ladies. I say ladies because that seems to be the one group that goes for the fad diets. What I don't understand, is that loosing weight is not a mystery. Burn more calories daily than you consume and you will loose weight, guaranteed. It's a simple matter to go on line to find the caloric content of anything that we eat. It's also a simple matter to go on line and see how many calories are burned by a given activity. Why spend the big bucks on the latest diet ploy?

I am 74, am 6' 4" tall and weigh 205 lbs. To maintain that weight I can consume up to 3,068 calories per day. Anything over for any length of time and I will gain weight, anything less, I will loose weight. I can eat chocolate all day any nothing else and as long as I don't exceed the 3,068 calories, I'm OK. OK---I know, it's all about disipline, but it's your bod. Why risk getting Diabetes ll, coronary artery disease and a host of other diseases associated with over weight. exactly how its done and it maintains your weight.

fad diets are short lived......and once you go off them, the weight comes right back on.

any diet anyone goes on is the same, when you go off it, weight comes back.

makes no sense to me either why woman do these.

eat healthy and exercise...........so simple.

Yes, it's so simple.

The theory is simple....in practise there are loads of factors that put enormous spanners in the works......number 1....willpower......... when it comes to some foods and smoking my willpower fails me somehow. :o

P.S. I am a healthy eater....fish, fresh veg etc it's the in between 'stuff' like biscuits and cakes that are my downfall.

I find my life changes and so does my activity.

My own health holds me back from exercising

My husband's health issues - keep me from activity - I'm here on FG..

In the '80's - I lost weight with the Cabbage Soup Diet - it worked and stayed off.

At this time I eliminated Ketchup - Pop - Ice Cream, Sugar & Cream in my Coffee, haven't had any since.

This summer I ate alot of Watermelon - first few days that's all I ate, cleansing.

I eat fruit all day - and one small dinner, and I've lost @ 30 pounds since May.

I've always battled with my weight, and now that I'm older - it is a battle...:wah:

There are other root causes of weight loss...... Worry..... that's a good one.

I do have to agree though that burning more calorie's than you eat is a great help.

My friend was getting married and wanted to look ultra slim for her wedding. She started by going to the gym every day. She lost a huge amount of weight but also got the muscles. She looked like a condom full of walnuts.

I've heard about cleansing, whats its all about, if its just fruits, no good for me, to much acidity makes my tummy burn.

I cannot always exercise because of health issues as well.

There's different ways to clean your system - I did it with Watermelon.

Several healthy alternatives are out there to cleanse your system.

If you can do watermelon - other melons and alot of water

your water Puree... it'll work

I can't exercise - back surgery - and 16 other surgeries, I'm lucky to walk.

that's what pissed me off when the weight piled on

I worked out all my life - always battling weight and stayed fit - then my health took a turn and there's no looking back... and I don't want to look back there cause that's where alot of the pounds were....:wah:

It's a detox - I still drink wine at night .

I'd probably loose another 10 lbs. if I gave that up - won't happen..

I'll give up ICE CREAM..

my weights a huge problem also, to much sitting, cannot vacum.......my back

Funy I battled weight all of my life also, up and down continualy and now cannot get if off lack of exercise.

I can stomach watermelon and melons, no acidity in those, and one meal at night, how long is the cleansing done for?...........and can I last?

The melons are all water and very very good for you.

If for say - you do just melons for a couple of days, melons & water..

You clean your system - you will be tired, so don't expect to vacumn..:wah:

Only do this if you know your body - or talk to your DR.

I did watermelon for a few days and that's all.

then I gradually introduced a 1/2 pork chop & salad for dinner.

did that for a couple of weeks.

then just alot watermelon , cantelope - for dinner salad.

So, I'd gradually do less & less - absolutely no bread, noodles etc...

You could do alot of melons and small dinner for 6 weeks & loose weight without any problem - other than you may get tired.

If I left & had some errands - I always grabbed a apple for the road & water..

I also chewed alot of gum..

Read Gary Taubes article on the subject

It was reading Taubes and listening to his talk here. that enabled me to understand how best to reduce my weight problem. from this 14st 9lbs to this 11st 0lbs over six months, without counting calories or carbs or keeping under the amount of calories needed for basal metabolism and without doing any extra exercise whatsoever.

All you need to do is to stop eating those foods that increase your food cravings and raise your insulin levels fast and high. Stop eating those foods that make you hungry and it's easier to stop eating.

No food cravings mean less chance of snacking.
