American Football vs. Rugby

In my opinion there is no comparison, they are completely different games, both of which I enjoy. American Football is like chess and Rugby is like checkers. There are probably no more than 4 or five players on a American Football team that could successfully play Rugby and that would be some running backs and some wide receivers. Line men???? Not at 250 + lbs.

American Football has their specialists and hardly ever play the entire game.

Rugby? They are in it for the full 60 minutes for the most part.

That's why I think Baseball is so much more exciting. No minutes out, etc. Football is so boring except maybe if your a guy.

I'll tell where the hot spot of the sporting world tonight is-at my TKD studio, where I will break two board in a row.

I have not been online exclusively today. I have been to the doctor, the market, went swimming for 1 1/2 hours and practiced on the harmonica for an hour. I do get tired of reading what people had or are having for dinner and try to stimulate some other thinking. Leave for NZ on the 4th of November and always take the laptop. I have a high speed connection in NZ as well.

My wife? Right now she's taking a nap.

I know what you mean by this place..gotta get off and go into the RL which we did today as all 4 of my kids were off school and went to lunch with my mom. I was kidding when I said you were bored, but sometimes when I'm out and about I think of things to post but I'm so daft sometimes I forget. A product of Momnesia. So, your taking off on Election Day? I'll wave to you as you pass over Pennsylvania and we'll save you a piece of ice cream cake (hubs birthday).:wah:

I have never watched much American Football so can't comment.

I think UK rugby is much more manly ... they don't have to wear all that protective gear these American football guys do .. grunt grunt !!

Without actually sounding biased(Quit frankly I like both sports) there wouldn't be more than 4 or 5 rugby players that could play American Football either...

Quarterback and wide receiver in American Football takes very fine skill as much I'm sure as do certain positions in rugby(I don't know overly much about rugby)...

But to compare the sports rugby and American Football in my humble opinion is very misleading and very wrong...At least from a detailed point of view...They may look similar but both are light years apart...

I'm responding to the OP and haven't had a chance to see the other posts but I'm wondering how long it will take before the tired argument of "which is tougher" comes up...If it hasn't already...

Personally I think they're both the same just at different aspects...I think rugby takes a more sort of grinding toughness in a sort of consistent way where as American Football takes a toughness mentality to not be constently worried about that 15 yard full out sprint just before someone breaks your stinking neck...I see way more head to head contact in American Football whereas I see a much more fundamental approach in rugby tackling...The pads and no pads is nonsense...If American football players didn't where pads there would be far greater injuries in American football than rugby because American football is designed around not knowing where a hit will com next as opposed to the sort of line play of rugby...

Both sports are tough and both sports are fun to watch...
