Hi all, our daughter is looking to buy a GPS system for her car, preferably one that plugs into the ciggie lighter!
She's looking for reliability, & most important, accuracy!
(She's willing to go as high as $500!)
Anybody out there have one that they can recommend?
Automobile GPS System- any good ones?

Life is just to short for drama.

Garmin Nuvi 200
I love it, it rarely fails me and it paid for itself in 1 day.
No complaints at all.
Ive heard Tom Tom's are trouble.

Waste of time imo. If she can't read a map than a GPS won't help her at all. The number of people you see getting lost with them because they don't have a basic understanding of map reading. Maybe if she is a courier driver going to strange addresses all the time but for most people who always go to the same places what is the point?

The point is, she's "Not" going to the same places!!! And reading a map won't talk to you, telling you when to turn left or right, and calling out the street names as you go!!!

Don't take offence I wasn't having a go at her or anything. I just think they are a waste of time. The number of people I know that have one but don't use it or can't use it or just buy it as the next trendy accessory and never go anywhere new in the car I find amazing. I spent most of my time going to new places to see clients I've I've just become very adept at reading maps and memorising where to turn off.
I go hillwalking and see people using them that quite clearly don't know the basics of map-reading in the first place. The temptation to be rude or even just mildly sarcastic when someone comes up to you to ask where they are while clasping one of these things is very strong. I do actually have one. They are handy to check your position as an extra aid or in mist I use the way marking feature.
