Not Enough Veggies Folks

Post by Lon »

I have gone back and read 32,568 posts of "What are you having for dinner?) and have come to the conclusion that FG members consume way too many carbs and not enough vegetables. Shame Shame. This makes me think that FG members overall, have a weight problem. Oh sure, there is that token veggie like peas, that someone will have with their fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, garlic bread and chocolate cake for desert. I don't seem to read any posts where someone has at least two veggies with their hi carb meal, or salads either. I love my beef, fish, pork & chicken, but also eat daily, at least four different vegetables along with fresh fruits. Hi carb meals seem to be the thing both in the states as well as the UK and is no doubt the cause of the increased weight of it's citizens, along with lack of exercise.

OK no more PREACHIN, just trying to keep ya'll healthy and fit.

You can join FGMFF by sending me your check for $15 so I can buy dehydrated veggies to distribute to needy members.

Brilliant idea, Lon.

There is a campaign in the UK to get everyone eating five fruit and veg every day. I don't always make five every day...but I'm trying!

Can I become a member of FGMFF?

I love to go out to the garden and hand pick fresh veggies, And Put them on the grill with a good steak. Oh if you ever had fresh green beans from the garden you will never buy them from the store. :)

I'm mostly seafood, veggies and grains with the occasional chicken who was askin' fer it.

I'm intrigued by raw food diets. I'm considering it but have to figure out which missing nutrients I'd have to compensate for and make sure I have a good supply of interesting recipes.

You're right Lon. Seems to be tons of fried foods and no veggies. I make it a habit everynight to have some kind of veggie. Asparagus, artichokes, peas, broccoli, carrots, etc. and I always pack a fruit in their lunches.

Buy a big Family Pack of frozen mixed Stir Fry Veggies. Shake out the amount you want into a microwavable bowl and give em about 4 minutes on high and voila you have a nice quick nutritious mix of veggies to have with what ever else you are eating. Frozen veggies can be almost as good as fresh. Most frozen corn and spinach that I buy is pretty darn good. Broccoli cooks up in a microwave in short order.

If you find preparing veggies too time consuming and a bit of a chore, why not try the frozen veg? I always keep a variety in my freezer and they are cooked within minutes.

You can even buy individual frozen packs of assorted veg, usually 4 in a pack. Two minutes in the microwave and ready to serve.

Very convenient when you live in the sticks.

In my case I know I'm not as descriptive in the dinner thread as I could be. For instance I might write that we're having tacos that night but I don't include that I always serve a plate of fresh chopped veggies alongside it for toppings. Or when I make pasta I always add fresh veggies to it like mushrooms, zuchini, etc. . I love ALL veggies. :)

And for the record I'm very thin. :p :D
