I realize that this kind of thing has been going on for centuries in some parts of the world. But I also want to know how if at all possible can it be stopped before very many more years go by ?

A girl who said she was gang raped has been stoned to death in Somalia for alleged adultery, a human rights group has said.

Welcome to the tolerant, non-violent Islamic world. The same thing happened in Iran not too long ago.

buried up to her neck in the ground and stoned ... taken out no less than three times and then buried again in order to check if she was still alive ...

as for human rights ... these can only be applied in countries where humans live!

Would anyone like to explain why the rule of law no longer holds in Somalia?

It does not say in the news report if the child was

'married' or not, and I'm am not in any way clued into how the 'Somalia's think, so, my question is do women have to be married when and if they are raped for the rape to be considered adultery?

And IMO ,what difference is it if she was 13 or early 20's ?

That's what happens when you let the religious have too much say in how people should run their lives. Christian fundamentalists are just as capable of the same kind of atrocities. It's not too far from an attitude that a rape victim must have been asking for it to outright condemnation of the victim rather than the rapists.

We may not stone them to death but this country has an appaling record for rape victems not reporting to the police. Any rape victem is viewed with suspicion especially of very late by British Police. It is estimated that half of British rape victems do not report to the police. I wonder why?

I have no facts and this is only a guess on my part. I would guess that the half of all rape victims in your country don't come forward and report the rape for the fact that if any thing at all is done it feels like a double victimizing ordeal, like the rape victim is 'victimized twice' 1st the rape and 2nd the police, medical and legal systems way of treating the victim.

If there was a chance that the victim would be treated with 1/10 th the way this child was treated it could almost be guaranteed the estimated 1/2 of victims would be more like one millionth of one tenth of them.

Your Spot on. Our police have got better in the last few years with more intense rape police specialists but it was dreadfull. Also the court ordeal was worse. If the rapist pleaded not guilty, she would have to give evidence. I have seen what defence lawyers do in court and it's utterly ruthless. Shame on our police and lawyers.
