Married 26 Years!!

So this is the week when I have married 26 years :-2 Jeez now I feel old! :wah: I got married when I was 18 years old, and I am thinking that most people thought it would end in divorce. Most people thought that getting married at 18 is not a good idea, to which I have to agree, however those first 18 years were packed with learning experiences! So this 18 year old was up there on the maturity levels.

Anyway, what do you think makes a marriage work? I am thinking love alone is not enough. You need team work and respect too.

Doesn't mean I did not want to throttle him on occassions, and I am sure I drive him crazy sometimes ... not often mind :sneaky:

Many congratulations.

I was married at 18 and married for 20 odd years before we divorced.

Keep working at it.....it is not easy.

:-6 Yikes, thats a long time to be married, and then to find out it was not the right thing .... sorry to hear this

Happily remarried now.......it happens, or should that be sh*t happens (Sorry to lower the tone)

Think we still both have a high regard for each other, children kept us together I think.

I wouldn't know what make a marriage work I have been divorced 37 years.

The ones I see that have worked have this going for them.

1. Love

2. Respect

3. Trust

4. Humor

5. Mutual likes for the most part

6. A desire to make it work

7. Last but not least COMMUNICATION..

You are right communication is a biggy. DH and I are so, so different .... I guess we make up for each others 'missing bits' :-6

Congrats! yes marrying at 18 was young but it was obviously the right thing for you. My mum and dad were 18 & 21, been married over 44 years now.

What makes a marriage work? Having your own car - so when he's pushed you too far you can go for a drive to calm down!
