- VMware Server is a virtualization product that makes it possible to partition a single physical server into multiple virtual machines. VMware server works with Windows, Solaris, Linux and NetWare, any or all of which can be used concurrently on the same hardware.

I am planning to bring in new equipment to replace all of our servers and critical ops machines (some almost 8 years old:eek:). My game plan is to split everything between the new equipment and whatever isn't being hosted on one of the piecesis getting mirrored on it. Theoretically, if a piece of equipment goes down, the come-up time for lost servers on the backup equipment is supposed to be from 5 to 15 seconds..

Of course, if this works right, they won't need me anymore ....:-2

Wanta hear something funny? Went to a local user group all day thingy earlier this year because we are out in the middle of a cornfield here in illinois and yet Microsoft was sending speakers, right? First time -so everyone vowed to show up to encourage them to come back.

I accidentally went through a wrong door and sat in on an "overview of virualization"... took me 15 minutes to give up trying to figure out what the hell this had to do with 2008 server. It had nothing to do with it... but I was hooked..:o

Trust me Jab... to my folk... this is hysterically funny.. especially if you knew how much this project is gonna cost..:lips::yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

It's a wonderful route to take. You'll be just as needed when it's in place, you'll just have a more flexible and robust network.
