How Many Computers Are In Your House?

Post by qsducks »

I want to get another desktop so alleviate the traffic that the current one occupies. I've got 3 teens who all have projects due in the months to come and the one I'm using is in one of their bedrooms. Don't ask, just answer. What do you think?

Stop a lot of arguments.

Personally, I'd use a wired router if possible rather than going wireless - much more reliable.

Yes, get it. Just don't allow internet access in their bedrooms, keep it in 'public' areas of the house.

We have a lap top for general use.

A computer in one of the kids bedrooms for homework with no internet access.

I have my own lap top from work

my wife has her own lap top from work.

I would think that another desktop would increase the traffic; assuming you are referring to Internet traffic. The advantage of having your own desktop is fairly obvious I think. But if it is Internet traffic you are referring to, you might need to upgrade your Internet connection to permit more traffic.

I have just the one, but now considering getting a laptop for so many reasons:

-using it while sitting on the couch is more relaxing

-using it in doctors offices or anywhere I have long waits to contend with.

- would use a different internet supplier so no one can track my locations on-line.

-my back kills me in this chair or any other chair.

-can also play and be with my cats, they cry alot when I am in my office so much.

they need to be around me for their well-being and just knowing I am sitting with

them.

- I also do alot of work for my brother, so having it to take with me to his house and back would be a huge bonus.

-
Life is just to short for drama.

What you need is one very visible computer with internet access and homework machines in their rooms. Teen internet access out of parental control is a family catastrophe.

I have two, one of which I could carry around if I want places where carrying a computer would be useful but I don't so it gets no use these days. I type on it sometimes when I'm in the other room.

Just a laptop for now, but when in the states I have a desktop PC as well.

When the PC goes the way of worn out PC's I will just have a laptop, as it does everything that the desk PC can do, so why have two.

just one desktop.

It'll probably only ever be just one but we only have two kids and they're not going to be allowed unlimited, unsupervised internet access until they're adults anyway! :D :wah:

How did you guess? Well, I ordered it and with a 22" screen. We built a computer table a year ago and it looks so lonely:o and it's the Christmas surprise.

I have 1 desktop and 2 laptops at any given time. I also work on them at home sometime so I can have a whole bunch of laptops in my office. ;)

My sister had the same issues with her 2 daughters. I suggested 2 medium grade laptop in their rooms with printers. Kids need their own as their homework load only increases. They were fighting over the desktop that was in my Brother in laws office. They used these laptops all through high school, then took them to college. My oldest Niece first laptop finally died after 6 almost 7 years.

You need to look forward when buying computer equipment as you want it to last and be useful for a long time. Wireless is great for kids. If you have 2 story house it can be an issue so check it out with your carrier for distance and placement.:D

I originally was going to get a laptop, but my with older daughter and her having issues with cellphones, cameras, cars (see a pattern here:wah:?) I think the desktop will be a safer bet.;)

You are correct on this if they can't control their use then a central desktop is the way to go. She will grow out of this as her homework load increases, and lack of privileges will change her mind. ;)
