Facebook is being used as a platform for hatred and opinion

I joined Facebook simply as a short cut for keeping in touch with 40 or so neice's and nephew's.

When i registered, i was a little naive into how intrusive this machine is and i no longer post on it.

As with FG it E mails you to tell you that a 'friend' has commented or written on their wall.

I believe that Facebook was originally concieved for the likes of myself and those who have large family's and friends all over the country.

In the beginning, i had some mutual 'Contacts' who requested me as a friend. I ignorantly accepted them.

These contacts appear to use Facebook for nothing more than a platform for voicing ignorant opinion and hatred.

In just three days, i have had requests to join the:

Let's torture Baby P's mother link

Let's hang gary Glitter link'

No to Jamie Bulger's killers getting new Identity's

I don't care what their opinion is. I object to Facebook being used as a platform when children only have to be 13 yrs old to join and are submitted to this kind of opinion and hatred.

I have offered one contact the FG site to voice her opinion but as i suspected, she declined. She feels that posting these links and having people join her, makes her important and misses the fact that children are viewing the bile she is writing.

How do you feel?

i have been lucky..i havent seen anything bad on facebook.just trade pms and messages on blackboards to friends and family. i had a young man repeatedly try and buy me as a pet..thats about it..:yh_rotfl:p

i have been on facebook for ages andhavent any problems.....i dont accept a friend unless i know them.........its way for me to keep in contact with family and friends:D

The problem i have, is that i was stupid enough to accept people who i disliked rather than ignore and offend them. It's now to my cost.

I can't go into finer details but one contact very recently started a link on my lawyer. She felt she had the right to do this because she met him briefly. The lawyer is high profile in this country and has his critics and an 'anti' brigade against him.

To cut a long story short, she created the link (without my knowledge) using a picture of myself and him. The link went onto the net (she was too dumb to realise this) so any-one googling his name, stumbled upon her link. Some-one and we don't know who, then set up a fake facebook registration pretending to be him. (As if!!!!!) They then contacted all the people who had joined her link and requested them as 'friends' to get imfo as to what he was doing. She, for one, was so dumb, that she believed it was him and 'accepted' him as a friend. That fake then had access to everything she and others had written about him. Hence to say, he knew nothing of it, was convinced it was the 'anti' brigade, we had 'words' over her stupidity and i read her the riot act.

It just seems that there are people like her who have such sad lives that through Facebook, they can hi-jack some-one else's life and friends.

I am really annoyed. I registered on it just to keep up with the family's kids.

Yea I understand that it can be dangerous and I joined for the same reasons as you. I am very careful when I am on there but spend more time on FG. My hubbies family is scattered all over the country so its been great being able to catch up. On the other hand there is no way I would want a child of mine to join facebook:(

Thankfully we have been spared the bile then.

I've not had any problems. I add who I want, delete them if they prove to be deletable. I ignore the requests to join these groups, or join them if I want to. Yes it get's very silly on there but you choose what you do.

Well, i have just upset the offender. She has started the 'Steve Irwin' fan club and refered to him as crocodile man. I just posted that he's not so hot with sting ray's whoops!!!!!!:yh_rotfl
