the sun releases picture of baby p the AA grumpy column

Post by pantoandy »

hello i wasnt going to post this but i felt i had to.

it makes heartbreaking reading if easily upset please do not read on

----------------------------------------------

this is the last post regarding baby p as i feel it is to distressing to continue

on the FG for myself and other members i will from now on only be covering the court case.

baby p

A gorgeous, blond-haired, blue-eyed tot with a heart-melting smile.

The Sun is today publishing the first picture ever of the little boy who died in the most tragic circumstances.

In the heart-wrenching photo he gazes up at his photographer in search of the love and affection he was so cruelly denied.

The photo was taken by a childminder as Baby P happily toddled around her kitchen.

But the baby found lying dead in his cot by police last August bore little resemblance to the little boy in this photo.

Covered in blood his lovely blond curls had been shaved off. His face had been left battered and bruised by blow after blow.

Tonight Baby P’s natural father spoke of his “very traumatic experiences after the death of his son, adding: “I loved him deeply.

The tot had been tortured to death by his 32-year-old stepfather as his 27-year-old mum did nothing to stop him.

Paedophile lodger Jason Owens, 36, also did nothing to save Baby P from his torment.

All three are now awaiting sentence after being found guilty of causing, or allowing a child to die.

The photo was taken at the home of childminder Ann Walker who was employed by Haringey Social Services to look after the tot.

But according to Ann it doesn't show the full horror of what he was enduring day after day.

As Ann, who looked after Baby P during his final five weeks of life, revealed in The Sun today she feared that the tot was 'dying.'

In the picture there is a small faint red mark on his nose.

That according to Ann was nothing compared to the bruises and other clear marks of abuse she noticed on him later.

On one occasion he arrived with dried blood around his ears. On others she noticed he was red raw with nappy rash and his scalp crawling with lice, so many that his head was covered in open sores.

She says she told social worker Maria Ward over and over again that she feared the child was being horribly abused.

But Ann says her warnings were ignored.

She said: "I can't bear to look at photos now, they make me cry.

"He was such a beautiful boy. But I could see him deteriorating before my eyes.

"This picture was taken in the summer of 2007. By the time he left me he didn't look like he does in them anymore.

"His little smile had gone and his face was more and more bruised."

Despite his obvious injuries Ann remembers Baby P as being a 'happy little boy' in her home.

She said: "I think he felt safe for the first time in his life. He would be happy with me.

"But when he first arrived he would be very sad and withdrawn. As he spent time with me he would become more like a normal little boy.

"He was a gorgeous little thing. I can't believe what happened to him."

Ann's employment was part of the reason why he was left with his mother instead of being taken into care.

As two former Haringey social workers revealed to The Sun paying a childminder was part of a 'cheapo solution' the council seemed to favour.

Instead of taking a child into care, which is expensive, child minders, family and friends are brought in to 'support' a parent.

As Ann said: "I was told it was to give the mum a break."

Ann stopped caring for him shortly before his death. When she heard what had happened to him she cried buckets.

She said yesterday: "He was lovely as the photos shows. I do treasure them, but I can't look at them yet."

baby p must not die in vain

i reiterate what i have said all long those responsible must pay with their heads

and its time for a return to the death sentence for heinous crimes of this nature

i have seen the photo which really upset me.

baby p must have justice and i hope the three evil bastards responsible for this obnoxious crime meet their fate at the hands of others they will not be missed.

We were also upset to raed of the Sun's report today and to see the picture of baby P.

For those of you who haven't seen the Sun, here's the link

Baby P: First picture | The Sun |News

I think this story goes far futher than the parents who killed him. I do not blame the mother if she is genuinely mentally ill. She can not be held accountable for allowing her partner to injure her baby if she is mentally ill.

What lies beneath this story is an abusive power in that of 'Haringay' Social Services and council. They are the last bastion of the 'loony left' that our government needs to abolish and quickly. A council that is more concerned with hiring social workers of ethnic minority to be politically correct. It is a story of social service's chiefs on vast salerie's trying to now cover up the fact that this baby was visited 60 times. Junior social workers refered baby P's case time and time again to superiors who would rather 'balance the books' than do what was in the interests of this child.

This is the same council that allowed another child very recently 'Victoria Clumbie' to also be tortured to death by her mother.

No lessons were learnt in that case and one of the senior social workers accussed of neglect of duty in the baby P case, is also accussed of lying and a cover up in the 'Clumbie' case.

One childs death is a tragedy, two, in a short period of time, is nothing short of a crime.

The sun newspaper is calling for the sacking of the social workers. The one who has lied in the 'Victoria Clumbie' case and is now accussed of gross neglet in baby P's case, should be in the dock with the parents.

Gordon Brown has ordered an investigation. These senior social workers who have even apologised publically refuse to resign. One has refused point blank to even apologise while her co-workers have. The arrogance of this idiot shoud be brought to task.

Yesterday, two 'whistle blowers' from within social services in Haringay told the Sun how if they questioned their senior social workers in not following up refered cases, they found themselves investigated.

This is a blantant mis-use of power within council and social services. While Haringay council is fining businesses for using the wrong bin bags, they have allowed two children to die at the hands of their mothers.

Even more shocking, is that shortly before baby P's death, a GP failed to spot that the baby was paralysed from the waist down with a broken back.

The very least these people should be facing is the sack, never to be employed with children again, struck off and in the dock.

It is tragic and disturbing that our social services are trying to explain away baby P's death when all the questions have not been fully answered for 'Victoria Clumbie' yet.

Without going into reams of the why's and wher-fore's, it is simply more cost effective for a council to have a child remain with the parents than to take it into care.

Oscar: What is "the dock"? Is that jail?

The social workers were responsible for this child's welfare. They neglected their duty. IMO they are acessories to murder. They should not only be fired, but immeditately arrested and charged.

The 'dock' is where a defendent stands during their trial before a judge or jury.

I totally agree with you. I find it mis-placed that in this country, a doctor, nurse, surgeon, police officer etc can be charged and face prosescution if they in any way contribute to a death or are guilty of malpractice. The sooner our government applie's the same laws to these social worker chiefs who ignored the referels from junior social workers on baby P's case, the better.

After all, they are dealing with life or death. The fact that this is the same council that was investigated only a few months ago for another child dying at the hands of the parents, is disgusting. For one childs death to occur through mis-managment of senior staff is bad enough, but two in a few short months is criminal.

Cases like this here are rare but i have to say, i am ashamed that this has happened in my country. It is just too awfull for words. How the hell can a doctor examining this baby fail to pick up that he was paralysed with a broken spine? The doctor is of an ethnic minority race.

Ahhhh.....we call that the witness stand...even when the defendent is sitting in it. You make em stand...lol. We let em sit. We should be makin em stand too.

We have cases like this here too. Although I cant remember hearing of one quite so brutal. There was one case where a social worker was reporting that she was seeing the child on a regular basis. As it turned out she was not. She did not even know where the child was. The child had been given to a relative without the knowledge of the social worker. The child ended up dead from abuse in another state. It was reported that the child had been with the other relative for about a year. Child Protective Services in the other state ALSO had that child in their system as being abused...and the child was also being supervised by that state. So you have TWO SOCIAL WORKERS in TWO DIFFERENT STATES claiming to supervise this child....and the child ends up dead from abuse. But then you have other people losing their kids for stupid reasons.....like they are a little overweight or some stupid thing like that. The whole system is trash. I guess its better than nothing....barely better.

I think it was yesterday that i read the chief social worker had refused to apologise for baby P saying that her department was within it's targets. There lies a large part of the problem. Having target related performances makes any worker 'balance the books' if they can not achieve their case load. I find no excuse with this group od senior social worker chiefs as the junior workers on baby P's case refered him over and over again to their superiors. I think the whole thing was down to cost cutting and keeping within budgets.

It's just gone 05.10 am here in Britain so we'll talk more tomorrow wildhorses. have a good night.

I cant read what happened to this poor little boy, I know I should but its too sickening to imagine, never mind read it.

Why on earth was a paedophile allowed to live with a couple with a child???

Why did they allow that child to live in squalor, ignore his bruised and battered body and employ a child minder to "give the mum a break" as it was the cheaper option to fostering or to take him into care. Why is money more important than a childs welfare and in this instance life.

I'm sickened that the people who we employ (ss) to look out for these poor neglected and abused children are not doing their job properly. Ok so they said he was accident prone, the odd bruise which all kids get you could excuse them for believing the pair( I cant even bring myself to call them parents).I cant believe that he was seen by social workers/doctors etc 60 times yet they didn't notice or act upon the fact that he had a tip of his finger missing plus a couple of his nails had been pulled out, black eyes, ripped ear, broken ribs and a broken back.He had a catalogue of 50 serious injuries and nothing was done, he wasnt taken away.

I cannot believe that this happens to defenceless children in this day an age. What the hell were they thinking??? We still have the beautiful face of Victoria Clumbie in our hearts and hoped lessons would of been learnt but no now we again mourning another poor defenceless babies death.

I got emailed this link this morning, saying it was about the mum of baby.p

Tot death trial mum has baby - mirror.co.uk

I cant believe she gets the chance to bring another life into the world after cruelly standing by and letting her first born child be battered to death. It beggers belief.

Baby P: Father speaks out - Telegraph

This shows that it is not just the Haringey Social Services who are at fault. The problem is far wider and goes higher.

A whistleblower has claimed child protection at Haringey was "out of control" months before the tragedy, but her letter, which had been sent to ministers, was "pushed from pillar to post" by Government departments and watchdogs and no action was taken.

Ministers admitted on Friday that they had received the letter warning of a repeat of the Victoria Climbié tragedy, but insisted they followed the correct procedures by passing it on.

It has emerged that in February 2007, lawyers for Nevres Kemal, a former social worker in Haringey, had written to Patricia Hewitt, then Health Secretary, and three other ministers in her department as well as the Tottenham MP David Lammy and the social care watchdog, the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Miss Kemal told the health ministers that child protection measures brought in to prevent a repeat of the Climbié tragedy, in which the eight-year-old girl was tortured to death by her guardians in the borough in 2000 after failings by the authorities were not being implemented, and called for a public inquiry.

But the Department of Health simply passed the letter on to the Department for Education and Skills.

Education officials also failed to act, merely advising Miss Kemal to try the CSCI watchdog. It held a meeting with Haringey officials in March but concluded that the town hall had dealt with the whistleblower's claims properly.

This probably means that there will be more 'save my ass' cover ups and nothing will be done to improve the lot for vulnerable children. At most, if The Sun's campaign is successful, those immediately involved in Baby P's case will be removed from the public eye.

I hate to say it but she and her two cronies will get put on a special wing where the chances of any 'harm' being done to them is minimal and honest decent people like my brothers who are prison guards will have to call them sir . Why ? because the rules say they are entitled to respect!

I have an old school pal who has been a warden in the prison service for 25 yrs now. We have had many a chat about what really goes on with wardens and prisoners. I have no reason to doubt anything he says. If what he has told me is true, then these scum will suffer at the hands of the wardens not just other in-mates. They do not take kindly to child abusers or killers.

As the man accussed of kidnapping Shannon Matthews has jsut found out to his cost..a warden only has to deliberately and accidentally turn his back when they are alone with other inmates!!!!

When the first press reports of the case started to come in, they reported that the mother was mentally ill. In which case i would stand by what i said in that she could not be held accountable.

Since then, more details have been realeased and today i read in 'The Express' that the mother had bragged to pals that she would be out by Christmas. She was found guilty today and was told that she faced a long prison sentence to which she apparently burst into tears for the first time since the long trial. Jurers had to hear details of baby P's injurie's that left them needing counselling. The mother never showed any emotion while the prosecution went into the horrific details. She only cried for her selfish sorry arsse today when she heard she would be going to prison for a long time.

All three were originally charged with murder but during the trial the judge ordered the charges to be dropped to a lessor 'allowing the death of a child'. It was first reported and indicated that this was done due to the mother being mentally ill but did not explain why the boyfriend and lodger had their charges dropped to a lessor crime as well.

In hindsight after the original press reports, it appears that the mother can not be mentally ill. For one, if she were, she would be detained under the mental health act and not at her Majesty's request. She would be deemed un-fit to stand trial and would be detained in a secure hospital where now she is looking at prison. If she was not in her right mind, this would not be sanctioned.

Another insight into the case today was the Express reporting that on one visit by a social worker, the child had facial injurie's and the mother covered these injurie's with chocolate spread and told the social worker he had just had a bar of chocolate. The social worker was fooled but the mother showed a great deal of inginuity to use this trick. That is the mind of a cold calculating person and not one of a mentally disturbed woman.

I just hope that after the judge ordered the charges of murder to be dropped to the lessor charge, he doesn't go soft when he sentances them in december.

While we wait for that sentancing, let's insist on action against the senior social workers who ignored repeated referels from junior social workers.

Spot and i have debated long and hard on Thompson and Venebles and i had to research the two quite a bit and do some reading to add links.

I can find the link again for you if you like but the boys were both disturbed before the killing. Jon Venenbles in particular was seriously disturbed and his teachers gave evidence in court. They also raised their fears to superiors and again they were over-looked.

Venebles in particular came from an extremely abusive home and was bullied as a young child. When he teamed up with Thompson who had also been bullied, the pair then became the agressors.

The two should never have been in the position to harm Jamie Bulger. they should have been removed from the family home after teachers flagged up their disturbing behaviour and background. In a way, if they had not gone on to kill, you would be sympathising with them because their lives were not un-similar to baby P when they were young. They were both also addicted to the 'Chucky' horror film in which a doll goes out on a killing spree.

Both the boys recieved intensive rehabilitation whilst in youth custoday. After 8 years, it was decided they were fit to take their place back in society.

As for your question of 'damage limitation', It's an interesting one. I myself don't believe that the judge instructed the jury to look at the lessor charge of 'causing death to a child' for damage limitation. I think that is another issue we all have with our judges being too soft.

They will go to prison, the judge has told them that but they will no doubt be segregated for their term along with the likes of 'Huntly' so other inmates can not get at them. Our prisons have their fair share of people like this including baby rapists. They all have to be segregated for their own safety and their identity's would no doubt have been kept hidden for fear of reprisals upon their release.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. R.L. Binyon
