The AlQaeda 2IC also played as many insulting racial cards as he could - calling Obama a house negro. AlQaeda is probably more worried than they've been in a while.

I am actually a little puzzled about Bin laden. Just prior to the Bali bombers execution, they called on Bin laden's deputy to avenge their deaths.

I think so too. Bush was just far too complacent and dealt with most issue's by just brute force. I do think Al-Quaeda has been caught on the hop especially now Obama is talking to Iran.

I don't for a moment believe that the incoming American President is abandoning the fight against terrorism. If I'm reading right what he's been saying, I think it's very likely he'll pinpoint his targets very carefully, rather than spraying shot in all directions like his predecessor.

Yes i do too. I didn't want him to win but not for colour. His colour also may be a drawback in foriegn affairs. I'm pleased to read that his is considering a senior post for Hilary Clinton in that dept in some way.

Why would his skin colour be a drawback in foreign affairs???? We live in a multicoloured, multiracial world. He's got in him, white and black and has experienced the cultures of America, the Pacific, Africa and Asia. Very good start for any world leader!!

I agree with Pammy in that having a president of mixed race immediately changes the perception of the US in many countries, particularly Africa which is more pro-American again than it has been in 50 years. Africa is where a lot of the action is at the moment, and the Africans themselves are aware that large outside powers are once more scrambling for influence in that resource rich, strategic continent.
Of course this Obama-mania is all very superficial really, but at the same time these kinda image things make a difference in the world of diplomacy and soft power, and the US has managed to pull off a massive propaganda coup and boost its image enormously abroad at no cost to itself other than the cost of the election itself. In an era where military intervention is becoming a very expensive option, this is no bad thing.
I don't think many Americans realize this yet, but they will when Obama takes office and starts visiting abroad. In real-politik terms this means that Obama won't have to use as much force to get his ideas across to a lot of foriegners, as they want to go along with him, as he makes them feel good about themselves. It also shakes up the apple cart and means Obama has an opportunity to put geopolitics on its head by talking to some enemies and using them to attack worse enemies. Everyone is a little wrong footed by him, unlike the utterly predictable Bush, and that the way to have it.

This is Mr Oscar's theory too. It would be a massive coup to any government to catch him but to have him killed could bring another 9/11 or the London Tube bombings in revenge.

I agree Pam. I was thinking along the lines of.. If the muslim extremists are calling on him to stand by his muslim roots then that's already one example of how some of the world think. They forget rather convieniently that his mother and grandmother are white American.
