I had a look at the fuel efficiency of cars in England this year just to compare with the gas-guzzler SUVs you're used to. The SEAT Ibiza 1.4 TDI 80PS Ecomotion, Volkswagen Polo 3 / 5 Door 1.4 TDI (80 PS) BLUEMOTION with DPF and the Mini Cooper D Hatchback with particle filter all give better than 60 miles per gallon "US Urban and US Extra-Urban combined". That's US gallons, not the rather larger Imperial gallons we dispense here.

They all have 85 or 97 cubic inch engines, generating 80 kW / 110 Hp, a C02 emission of 104 g/km, a top speed of 121 miles an hour and 0-60 in 9 seconds.

Presumably they'll be the sort of cars on your dealership forecourts in a couple of years. Not before time either.

I hear you, it is a fecken joke.

In Ireland the government has bailed out the banks with millions of our money, and now the banks are refusing to give loans to small businesses, who is going to save these guys when they need to close up and go bust?

We've had a couple of business added to our local economy in the last few years due to the fact that the big cheeses can jump into their plane and head back to chicago every night.. we had to expand our runways and such..
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Actually GM europe, ford europe both produce cars here that are every bit as economical as Volkswagen or BMW. Honda, toyota, mitsibishi all make cars in america. It's not that the big three don't have the know how or American workers are that bad. My wife owns a chevrolet-ok it's made in korea and in UK terms the badge uis even more naff than daewoo but it's actually a pretty good car for the money-better than citroen peugeot.

The Seat is made in Spain, the volkswagon fox is made in brazil even india is at it now.

I still can't get over this notion that if a company goes tits up in the US the pension provision for years already worked gets plundered, and ex-workers end up with less for their old age. Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick and it's not true, I only imagined it. If there's anything to it I'm not surprised that people living in the Detroit area are furious at what might happen.

the bigwigs are always the last to go, they are so used to their high-society lifestyle.

...why would they sacrifice that for their company or employees?:lips:

and of course they are the ones also to make the huge bucks....they are certainly not going to offer to give that up, so the company goes down!:-5

If it wasn't for the 3 million worker who stand to lose their jobs I would say let them go under. :(

You could always fire all the CEO's sell their planes, houses, jewelry and cars and that should get them the 25 billion their are asking for. They need those plane for security reason. Who the hell cares who they are. I wouldn't recognize one of them if they were sitting next to me on a plane. Pompous stuffed shirts are so OUT OF TOUCH they just don't get it. Believe me there are plenty of competent people who could run GM and FORD for a lot less then these baffons are getting paid.

What goes up must come down and that is what is going to happen to every thing in this country. We have played the greed and me card once to often and now we will be playing the suffer big time game, but its the little guy who will be suffering the most. :-5

Short of overthrowing your government, you're all rather stuck with what these people do to you. Voting isn't going to change their ways.

Loved it this morning when the CEO of Ford said he "will not be traveling that much on his private jet". So now he's feeling sorry? I wouldn't recognize any of these bafoons either by plane or train. We are already starting to feel the pain in our house as constuction is drying up fast.

You have to wonder at the intelligence of CEO's that turn up in private jets when asking for a loan to bail out their companies

It's just so simple, if companies would cut down all their own spending, cut prices in stores, consumers would buy...hence, there would be no problem with the economy.
