I was very lucky to get those decorations for my tree. Sears was trying to get rid of all of its products after Christmas, and I bought so many beautiful Victoriana ornaments for 1/4 th of the price. You can't see them too well, but there are gorgeous bells, violins, flutes, trombones and angels.

Suzy, our sales start on Black Friday which is the day after Thanksgiving. It's always the 4th Thursday in November. Next year it will be on November 26th. You can get bargains in NY, but you have to be selective as only the left over items are on sale:(

Hope you can squeeze me in for dinner or a drink. If you're in Manhattan, I'll take the train in and meet you if you're available. If you're staying longer, and you're passing by Noo Joisey I hope you'll come visit me at the beach:-4

I think i'll be over for about 5 days, if the sales start on the 26th i may come for then but only if all the christmas decorations are up :)

I would love to meet you, there will probably be a few of us so if you could meet us that would be fantastic :-4:-4:-4

Suzy, If you're coming to NY, I would love to meet you all:-4 Whatever you do though book your hotel room in Manhattan early....Rooms are sold out way ahead of time and are at a premium.

Christmas displays and decorations are always up for Thanksgiving.

I'm not a shopper Suzy but googled some close-by areas that you could visit for good bargains. You can take the train or bus there....

read this thought written by a New Yorker.....

......."There are lots of great stores in the city. Going to Woodbury Commons, especially by bus makes no sense whatsoever. There's new Filene's Basement on Union Square. Lots of goods stores on 34th Street not far from Macy's (from H&M to Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic). Soho on Broadway and 5th Avenue around 17th, 18th and 19th street are filled with good stores. And if you are desparate to save on sales tax, take a path train on 34th Street - take a train to Pavonia Newport on the other side of the river in New Jersey (takes 13 minutes). At Newport mall you pay no sales tax for clothing and shoes and 3% tax on everything else, including electonics."

'There is still a great Loehmann's on 7th Avenue between 16th and 17th Street. I highly recommend it! After Loehmann's, grab a great quiche at Le Petite Abeille (18th and 6th), hit TJ Maxx and Filene's on 6th between 18th and 19th and go thrift store shopping at Housing Works and Angel Street (17th Street between 6th and 7th)! Enjoy your visit...'

At one time, I lived near Pavonia Newport in Jersey City:-6

OR, you can take a bus to an outlet area north of Manhattan......

...........The best place to get designer and name brand items at a discount is Woodbury Common but it is about an hour north of NYC and costs about $35 by bus. You will need a good part of one day to shop there...here's a link....

www.premiumoutlets.com

Touchstone lives in Manhattan....I'm sure he can give you some good advice.....

I love having everyone over but it's hard work I'm shattered for weeks after Christmas! I do it so that my Mum gets to spend time with the whole family and after the beating 2 types of cancer twice, I like to make the most of all the time we are all together :-4

Hows Shelia behaving with the tree? Poppy has been excellent but Alfie has gone to have a nose a few times, I shouted so loud I made the kids jump :wah:

I finally put up my lil' Christmas decorations at home. What you are seeing is a wood dollhouse my hubby built, a skating rink, and a Christmas tree. I have snow in the front yard. On the roof of the dollhouse, I have cellophane topped with spray "snow" to simulate snow and ice. Mr and Mrs Claus are sitting on a chair together admiring the view. :)
