Gordon Brown's heroic surprise visit to Helmond, Afghanistan to visit Troops
Gordon Brown the British Prime Minister made a heroic surprise visit to troops in Afghansitan.
No British Prime Minister has ever put himself so dangerously close to to the Major Frontline since Churchill during WW11. His predecessor 'Tony Blair' certainly never left the safety of a fortified British base on his earlier visits.
Gordon Brown visited British troops after fatal bombings at the 'Roshan Tower Post' in the heart of the 'Helmand' Fight Zone.
A pathetic tirade from Churchill's grandson, Sir Nicholas Soames' saw him try to under-mine this heroic visit by calling it nothing more than politics. His outrageous comments have done little to impact the morale of the troops Gordon Brown visited.

Gordon Brown's heroic surprise visit to Helmond, Afghanistan to visit Troops
While the country gears up for a possible general election next year, i am disgusted that 'Soames' can bring politics and government wrangling over votes into Gordon Brown's visit to Afghanistan.
Weather you are for or against Gordon Brown, this was a visit to boost morale of british troops after devastating fatalitie's in bomb attacks.
'Soame's' should know better and have the grace to give Brown the credit he deserves.
Especially after the bombings there, at Christmas time, the morale of our troops is paramount. I for one applaud Brown's visit and the day i see 'Soames' on the frontline, he may be worthy of the title of Churchill's grandson.

Brown is one of the arseholes that got them in to this mess in the first place.
Mr Brown told the troops that their sacrifice was essential to the wider war on terrorism.
Great morale boosting comment that. We're not giving you the equipment you need to survive but we're all very grateful and your death is not in vain.
The man's a tosser.

I pretty much guessed that his visit would be seen as another opportuntity to bring his politics into question.
Brown did not get them into it, Blair did. Why do you think under Gordon Brown's government we have him announce that all troops barr 400 will be out by June?
For the first time, we are actually seeing a PM who does give a damn about the people of Gb and when he does something courageous, his critics still try to mock.
I don't see any other Minister queuing up for the 'Helmond province' along side him.

What is it you don't understand about the culpability if this man. He was in the cabinet, he was chancellor, he supported |Blair in everything he did.
If he had any kind of integrity integrity he would have resigned at the same time as Robin Cook.

Yes, we have all noticed it Jimbo but again, your being very cruel to mock his disablity. Whatever any-one thinks of Gordon Brown, he was born with a rare genetic disorder called 'isomeitis'. It is an extremely painful condition where certain bones do not fuse with each other leaving the sufferer to momentarily lose control. Most sufferers are afflicted in limbs and have difficulty walking but Brown's is a rarer form that has affected his face. It's why, if you haven't noticed, that people like 'Rory bremner do not use the 'jaw drop' when parodying him. He lives daily on a cocktail of pain killers and i find it amazing that he has such gruelling working days when most sufferers from this condition can barely get out of bed due to the pain.

I want a hung parliament. The only reason he is in power-and maggie and tony before him is our first past the post system effectively disenfranchises most of the electorate.
Even a labour party member and a daily mail reader must know the way our parliamentary system works. He was in government. he was in the cabinet, he supported Tony Blair all the way, he is every bit as much to blame as the ert of them.
As to the economy-given the train wrech he has helped cause do you really think the man who bears a lot of the responsibility for the disaster is the one to ty and sort it out.
I hear labour's new party slogan is going to be "it wasn't me" Certainly there seem to be enough labourites around stupid enough to fall for it.

I must admit, there is a lot to be said for a hung parliment but then i go by the calibre of politicians as well as the Party policy's.
In a Lab/Con hung parliment, you would end up with Brown Carrying Tosser Cameron because he does't have the experience or the brain cells to put a thought together.

Sadly in Brown we have a PM that demonstrates that having experience doesn't mean you are actually capable.
Don't think much of cameron either but at least he hasn't had a chance to f--k things up so far. Brown is an idiot and should resign over the fiasco he has helped cause.

I think the truth is, we will never really know the truth behind the in-house wrangling between Brown and Blair. IMy own humble opinion is that it was far worse than any-one knew. If Brown had resigned out of morality, it would have defeated the object by possibily bringing down the Government or giving the country no confidence in the party. I think he had to do what he had to do, and that was hang on long enough to take the country over.

Perhaps, but IMO if he had any integrity at all he would have resigned as a matter of principle rather than go against his principles just to stay in government. If you are against something you stand up for it and don't go along with the gang as it were.
If he was opposed and kept silent he should be ashamed of himself and it demonstrates a lamentable lack of integrity. If he supported it wholeheartedly he's an idiot.
Didn't particularly like Robin Cook-he was my MP-but he went up considerably in my estimation when he resigned.

he may have got a standing ovation but if the MP's were that impressed and agreed with him they should have had the guts to stand up and be counted.

Bringing down the Government and forcing a General Election is exactly what needed to happen - allow the people to have their say in the ballot box instead of protesting in the streets by the million and being ignored.

yet the bastards got in again despite an overwhelming majority of the voters NOT voting labour. It was the same in the Thatcher years-the majority did NOT vote tory yet she got in. Both sides claim a majority of the seats in a parliament hat increasingly does not represent the way people actually vote. We badly need electoral reform.

Had the election happened at the time then I am convinced that Blair would have lost - having an election two years later with other issues being pushed is not a genuine reflection of peoples feelings on the matter.

I think it's a toss up between Blair and thatcher as to who is the most destructive prime minister of the 20th century. I would vote for Blair. I hated thatcher but at least she acted in what she thought were the interests of the UK. Blair is a delusional numpty.
