and it was about gene mutation (hence the thread title )

they have taken a gene from a glow worm and they have put it into a mouse and have produced mice that glow in the dark :-3

they have also found the hibernation gene in mice whitch they can switch on in mice and they hibernate :-3they have also found this in humans

they have also found the grim reaper gene in a worm whitch has 70% the same genes as a human (that explains open mind then :yh_rotfl) any way this gene can be switched off and these worms live six times longer ,imagine humans living 600 years old

I read about all this in Metro earlier this year.

Prepare to nosh dirt Jimbletoe.

Back to the OP - how's about grafting in the gene for gills to get an underwater race to colonise the sea?

That's astounding stuff, jimbo, and it also gives me the shudders.

I love the idea of being able to tailor genes to eradicate birth defects and disease (let's leave alone the cost and the classism inherent in it's affordability for now), but when it comes to task-specific modifications, I would worry about the creation of sub-cultures and "gene bias". Sounds like socio-political sci-fi, I know, but human beings have a thing for societal sorting, do they not?

(Tsk! What is it about all this anti-human stuff I see so much of on here lately? So insulting. )
