What are the sounds of Winter that make you smile with happiness?
Mine is the sound of the snow blower clearing away the remains of the last snowfall from our hillside driveway. :-6

Sounds of Winter
Since I am in New Zealand and the seasons are reversed, I am listening to the sounds of the Bell Bird on a sultry Saturday morning.

The sounds of the tropical birds in the trees here make me smile!!! :-6 Especially when I'm out in the back yard with shorts on, with the Mrs & friends, sipping "Mudslides"!
Our daughter in NE called us this afternoon, telling us they were having a very nasty windy blizzard, (with upto 12" or more of snow) & of course that there was no school today! Our granddaughter was happy about that!

Mine is the neighbors snow plow clearing my driveway for us...and the sound of my dogs playing in the snow, then shaking it all over the kitchen after they've come in from rolling in it. :-4

The sound of the phone ringing, and my kids calling to say they miss me. :-4

Sounds of Winter
I was 10 years old and walking to a church service with my Mom. The snow was falling so peacefully, and all I heard was the crunch of our feet in the snow. There were no other sounds except for our breathing in the icy, snowy air and the lovely crunching sounds:-4
All I could think of were these 2 poems that I loved and memorized....
Velvet Shoes
Let us walk in the white snow
In a soundless space;
With footsteps quiet and slow,
At a tranquil pace,
Under veils of white lace.
I shall go shod in silk,
And you in wool,
White as white cow's milk,
More beautiful
Than the breast of a gull.
We shall walk through the still town
In a windless peace;
We shall step upon white down,
Upon silver fleece,
Upon softer than these.
We shall walk in velvet shoes:
Wherever we go
Silence will fall like dews
On white silence below.
We shall walk in the snow.
Elinor Wylie
And...
Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening by Robert Frost...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
All I could think of were these 2 poems that I loved and memorized....

Sounds of Winter
When I'm warm and cozy and safe inside, I like to hear the cold wind blowing outside. We have windchime on our back porch, and I like to hear them tinkle.
Life is a Highway. Let's share the Commute.
