Two Close Calls in One Week........

Post by along-for-the-ride »

Fellow drivers..........please be careful out on the road.

Tuesday, my hubby almost got hit head on the passenger side by a driver who went through a red (not yellow) light. Hubby was driving in town, had the green light and was making a left turn. Another truck coming from his right must have pulled out of the gas station there and sped right on through the light. Ugh! Close call for hubby. He didn't tell me about this til Weds.

Today, we were coming home from work. I was driving. I was on the right lane of a four lane highway with a medium in the middle. A red utility truck coming in my direction was crossing the medium to come onto the road I was on. I saw him and saw he had room to pull into the left-hand lane. But.............instead of doing that, he almost pulls into my car on the right-hand lane. Luckily, I quickly glanced to my right, had room to swerve and avoid him. Well, he stayed behind me and I told my hubby, "Watch this". I reached into my purse and pulled out my cell phone. I made like I was calling somebody and making a report. I know the driver of the utility truck could see my actions. Maybe I cast a bit of worry his way. ;) Anyway, he stayed behind me until I had to turn off the highway to come on home.

So please, be careful. We have alot of distracted and stupid drivers out there.

Thanks, guys. :)

I was just going to post this in my Daily Commute Thread, but I thought our recent experiences were just too important. Especially during this holiday rush, drivers can be distracted or in a hurry. Even if members don't post a reply, if they read and keep this thread in the back of their minds while they are out on the road, I'll be glad. Situations like we experienced on the road happen so fast and unexpectedly, that you don't have time to think..........you just respond. You know you have to react safely and quickly. You may be a competent driver, but you do have to look out for the "other guy".

Neither of us were angry after our near-crashes. We were relieved. We really hope the other drivers involved are more careful in the future.

the holidays are the worse here as well, everyone is in just way to much of a hurry, gotta get things done now!

- Parking areas are filled with vehicles, coming in or going out.....everyone must rush!:-5

On regular weekdays driving to work is a breeze, most seem calm and relaxed......driving home is like a nightmare!

-same drivers, but now mad, frustrated and they don't care about others, they have to get home as recklessly as possible at others expense, no signals being used, cutting off other vehicles, not stopping on red lights..........

there, I have said my bit!

I'm so glad you and hubby are okay. As an EMT, we get tons of accident calls each night. People going to fast for road conditions, drunks, and people distracted talking on their cell phones and not paying attention. There are times I dread going out having to watch the road and cars around me. Feels like I'm driving in a demolition derby sometimes :wah:

Glad you both were not involved in any accidents!

There are just too many aggressive, careless, kamikaze dufuses out there driving on the roads all over the country!

That's why I always, & I mean always, drive "defensively"!

Cause when two "offensive" drivers meet each other, the outcome is usually an accident, sometimes deadly!!!

ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"
