a little help for a final year undergraduate student?
Hey!
I'm currently carrying out an investigation into the concept of sexual self esteem.
At present, there are existing scales which help measure individuals’ satisfaction with life and self esteem, however it is fair to say that people differ in their sexual confidence just as much as they do in their general self esteem.
If anyone is interested, I would really appreciate it if you could fill out a survey I've put together-it shouldn't take longer than 5 mins.
If you are, go to the address below and follow the instructions:

Your help would be much appreciated!
Rach.

a little help for a final year undergraduate student?
Apologies, it was pretty rude to go straight into it. I'm trying to gather as much data as possible from a variety of different sources so I kept the message simple in the hope that if anyone had any questions/comments etc they could reply to my post.
I'm in the final stage of my final year at uni in Nottingham, Uk doing BSc (Hons) Psychology with social sciences. This is my chosen study for my dissertation. A lot of work has been carried out with the focus of self esteem (such as what causes high/low self esteem) in the field of psychology however there is little published work on indivduals' sexual self esteem. People obviously have feelings regarding how confident they feel about their appearence etc, which gave me the idea to explore the area a bit more.
Specifically, what i'm trying to find out is whether there is a difference between male and female sexual self esteem and if there are any 'predictors' of high/low sexual self esteem such as age, marital status etc.
I understand that not everyone would want to fill in the survey due to it's personal nature, but it's completely confidential (you don't enter your name or any other identifiable features-only gender, age, marital status and sexual orientation). I posted it here in the hope that some people may be interested.
Hope this spreads a bit more light on the topic.
Rachel.

Hi Rach,
I must say I agree with Arnold- it would have been nice to have seen you around a bit before shamelessly asking for help! :yh_shame
However, having just finished a psych degree myself I know how difficult it is to get volunteers for experiments/questionnaires so I'll help you out.
Just this once, mind!

Thanks for the sympathy Majenta.

I appreciate that some people will not want to fill in the survey but I had to try anyway as i need to gather so many responses! I suppose it doesn't really help having the survey based on such a personal subject but I just felt that it was an area that should be looked at.
It is the last study i will have to carry out for a while though as it's my final piece before i graduate-so i promise not to ask again!
I hope your degree went well-what area of psychololgy are you interested in?
Rachel.

I'm quite interested in Computational neuroscience and am hoping to do an MSc in it in a year's time - got really into connectionism and AI and stuff, very exciting! I hope you are enjoying your degree.

That sounds complicated and completely out of my league!
I love psychology and since doing this degree have become a fan of sociology too, wasn't a big fan of my degree course though-it wasn't quite what I had expected. I ended up doing philosophy and politics which are areas I'm not too interested in but it gave me a wider view of things I suppose.
Good luck with the MSc. I graduate in November and so far have no plans apart from a break from studying-doing GCSEs them As/A levels straight to uni means i'm ready for a break!
Definately want to pursue a degree in psychology though-not quite sure which area I want to specialise in yet though.
Thanks again for your help!

Rachel.

You took that minor correction from Arnold well, and you explained your position, both plusses in my book. I took your survey, and now I'm gonna go jump my ol' man!! :yh_bigsmi
Good luck with your project!

Rachel - did you notice that halfway through your quiz, you strangely changed the "agree / disagree' sides of the question? That's really confusing, especially if someone (like me) is going through it quickly. I had to change all of my answers on the whole bottom half. I'm betting that others have done the same and not noticed. It will affect your results.

age old psychology trick
it's to detect the people who are just randomly going through ticking boxes and not actually answering the questions. You may have noticed that some of the questions on the first half were similar to those in the second - it's so you can compare answers for consistency. Unfortunately as you say, it can cause people just to accidentally tick the wrong things even though they are doing it properly...

Well, Rach, I took it as well and am impressed with you in general. I hope we'll see you in other places other than just in this thread?:-6

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who filled in my survey for me-I really appreciate the help!
Also, thanks for you comments-the good lucks were a nice touch. It's a really challenging topic so I'm going to need it! The feedback regarding the layout of the questionnaire will be really useful for my evaluation as I'll have to mention the fact that Jives pointed out that some people may have filled it in incorrectly. I'm hoping that this hasn't happened too often!
Nice to hear from a fellow psychologist Majenta-thanks for your input regarding the layout of the survey!
Thanks again-I'll post a summery of the results when it's completed!

Well best of luck with it and I hope you've got all the data you need. Do have a look around the other threads, there's a lot of interesting debate that I'm sure you'd enjoy getting your teeth into!

Cheers Majenta, I might just do that-after I've done this study first!!
