anastrophe wrote: most people go blank when they see my name, i guess any name longer than three syllables and it's too much. the 'americanized' way to pronounce it, which is pretty much how i pronounce it, is
theo-dor-OP-oulos or perhaps even clearer, theo-door-OP-u-lus
i can usually get people to say it with this - Say "Indianapolis". Now say "Theodoropoulos".
parsing the name strictly left to right, it means
theo: god
doro: gift
poulos: son of
so, 'son of god's gift' or 'son of the gift of god'.
i grew up believing/being told that it was a very rare greek name - that all of the theodoropouloses came from one small town in the mountains of the peloponessus. however, the internet has dashed that belief. it seems the world is asses-to-elbows in theodoropouloses.....
Oh - to keep this on topic: The second amendment does NOT guarantee an individual right to own firearms.....
the second amendment codifies and enumerates that right, which is a priori.
:yh_bigsmi
As we Scandajoovians say "TACK" on both explanations
Hi guys... missed the bunch of you with a few exceptions and a place where commonsense seems to rule the day. The world is just nuts out there.. and clients are worse.. geez !
CVX - you just said the dirtest word in the antigun world :wah: KENNESAW .. notice how they recoil like Vampires from Glowing crosses and holy water. Then again they recoil like that anyway from crosses and holy water HA !
SWIZZEL STICK ... good one Accountable, have to remember that one and file it with the "not the brighest ....." and the Mushroom people quote.
As for your comment Far "the biggest failing people have in this regard is in saying 'hey, see this, it says right here i have this right - the government says i have this right, and it's written down for all to see'. but the government didn't write the constitution, the people wrote the constitution. the people grant the government certain powers but the rights we hold ourselves. the government does NOT grant us our rights. "
I could not agree with you more, except for the single exception that our "government" needs to remember who it is, how it got there and WHO IT ANSWERS TO NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Therein lies the biggest problem with all the hopolophobes in public office. I wish I was in CA a night or so ago when Swinestein was up on her pulpit doing her thing ... and had a bunch of gun hecklers with me yelling " pull up your skirt and show us your .38 "
