What in the World Has Happened to Barbie?

Post by Hope6 »

My niece got a Barbie for Christmas this year, the first thing i noticed was that this dolls skirt was so short it was almost a belt! :-3 My first thought was this is supposed to be a toy for a child! Good Grief! my neice is only 5 years old! There is absolutely no need for that skirt to be that short!

So I did a little research and i found that some other parents are complaining that Barbie has become to "tarty" was the word they used!

But there is a whole second part to this story! The doll also came with a dog, with a little leash so Barbie can walk him. The little girls mother was taking the doll out of the package for her to play with and i hear her exclaim OMG!

Upon closer examination of the dog we found that it comes with its own dog food, you feed the dog and then by pressing down on it's tail you can make it go to the bathroom! :-3 it comes with its own little toy scoop and trash can so you can clean up after the dog!

I found this whole thing very weird and disturbing, and it makes me wonder just what has happened to Barbie?

:)Let's be fair, Hope. When the original Barbie came out in the early 60's, she would have been considered a "tart" too. With her pouty red lips, her sly side-ways and mascara-ed eyes, her tiny waist and full breasts..............well....need I say more?. She was a single woman and out on the prowl. She had to have wear the latest fashions, open-toed shoes, and jewelry. Mattel had to make a boyfriend (hence Ken) for her......fast. Then they had to make girlfriends for her to gossip about her boyfriend to. And who was this "niece" Skipper? "Niece" indeed. ;)

I have never heard of this "dog" accessory. It does teach a young girl that pets have to be taken care of.......responsibilty.

Barbie run off with Ken and set up home in Soho here in England where he put her on the game and she had to give it up as a baby Barbie came along and so they moved to Harlow in Essex and are now living on top of MacDonalds where they stay at home most of the time watching Bid Up Tele.:DSo now you know what happened to Barbie.............. and just realised you didn't mean where she had gone:-5:-5:-5

Sindy is a British fashion doll created by Pedigree Dolls & Toys in 1963. A rival to Barbie, Sindy's wholesome look and range of fashions and accessories made it the best selling toy in the United Kingdom in 1968 and 1970. After Marx Toys' unsuccessful attempt to introduce Sindy in the United States in the late 1970s, Hasbro bought the rights to Sindy and remodelled the doll to look more American. As a result, the doll's popularity declined and Barbie manufacturer Mattel filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement, which was settled when Hasbro agreed to remodel Sindy's face. During the 1990s, Barbie's share of the doll market continued to grow while Sindy's diminished, which led to Sindy being delisted from major retailers in 1997. Hasbro returned the doll's licence to Pedigree, and the doll was relaunched in 1999, manufactured by Vivid Imaginations. Sindy's 40th anniversary in 2003 saw a new manufacturer, New Moons, and another relaunch and redesign. Barbie and Bratz dolls now dominate Sindy's original target audience of pre-adolescents, so Sindy, currently is aimed at roughly preschool-aged girls.

I am no expert on dolls, but having three daughters provides me with more information that I really need to know.

Barbie needed to change a bit as the Bratz dolls were almost killing her altogether. Bratz are very funky modern teen-dolls wearing very fashionable cloths and very short skirts.

The dog? well, that is just weard.

I had one cuz my mom was always trying to force me to be more like a girl, but like you I just wanted to be out doing whatever the boys were doing. I've always been extremely competitive.

When I was tiny mom bought me a little baby doll that had the string in the back to make her talk. Mom said she knew something was up cuz I dragged her around by the hair and pulled the string out so far that it wouldn't work. I have 3 brothers and lived in two neighborhoods that were all boys, so I was always out playing with them. I used to love going into the alley behind our house and make mud piles with rocks thinking they would turn into cement to fix the holes. :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

After extensive research (:wah:) I have a photo of several Sindy dolls. They do look cute..........but younger in face and body than Barbie. ;)

I confess that I do have that doll in my collection. Her name is Judith. I, personally, do not find anything offensive about her. She wears a denim maternity jumper and is indeed "pregnant" with a baby inside her. You can remove the baby doll.

If you google Barbie's real dimensions on the web you would be surprised how abnormal she is. And as for Ken he doesn't even have "equipment".
