whats for Lunch??

Post by kmhowe72 »

I am having a real hard time latly. I don't know what to feed my little ones. In the morning I give them eggs, sometimes pan cakes, ceareal(fruit loops this week) But is that really healthy for them. I have been hearinfg that children can get heart diesease.

And then for lunch I have been giving them cheeses sandwhichs, beanut butter(that really like that.) so I bought siome pizza snacks yesterday. Anthey seem to like that. They will eat apples, which are becoming in season soon. ( OH the new England fall) The hay rides, the color (American spelling) of the leaves. The rides through country. and then the all important picking of apples at the orchards.

Sorryy went off on the Bunny trail.

They don't like carrots, they don't like celery w/ peanut butter . Bugs on a log, peanut butter oncelery w/ raisens.

and for dinner , we have stuffed peppers w/ hamburger/ shrimp sometimes. We have use souce because we cannot give our children wine. or stuffed pepers with Mushrooms and melted cheese. were obsessed with peppers. So we put the hot dogs our kids love in a bun with Macaronie and cheese. And yes we thought about putting hot dogs in the peppers. But thats just going to far you think.

We try to make every meal a fun time. But both of them don't want to eat. They just rather drink there milk. and thats no good. Anyone have any good Ideas.

whats for Lunch??

For breakfast, I recommend oats or seven-grain porridge. Stay away from white bread and try to use more whole grains. Use at least two varieties of fresh fruit.

For lunch and dinner, substitute rice for pasta on occasion. Introduce more vegetables, especially legumes like lentils- but they're tricky, and you have to season them carefully to keep them from being bland and unattractive. I cook lentils a few hours (not too long!) in a crock pot, and then stir in fresh salsa (where we live, most supermarkets have fresh salsa in the deli section- not Pace or LaVictoria in a jar). Also bring in leafy vegetables- not iceberg lettuce, but greener, more nutritious varieties like leafy green or romaine, and raw spinach.

Try to use foods as much as possible in their natural form, like corn on the cob. Kids, if left to eat what is seen on TV will eventually refuse to touch anything that did not extrude like paste out of a stainless steel orifice in a factory, covered with sugar, and deep fried.

If you go out to eat, eat at locally owned restaurants. Try to avoid chains like McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc. It helps teach your kids to be free thinkers about their nutrition rather than brand-recognition robots.
Look what the cat dragged in.
