New Survey Results

Here are the results of a new survey:

The question asked was:

Was use of the initial $350 billion in bail out money a good idea or bad idea?

43% Good idea

27% Bad Idea

24% No Opinion

6% Not sure

The headline and story concluded there was “broad backing” for this and “overall the poll found strong public backing for the plan.”

So, 57% saying either bad idea, no opinion or not sure is strong public backing?

Oh wait, that was not the question asked at all. The real question was, “Is the proposed economic stimulus plan a good or bad idea?

It appears defining “broad public backing” may be in the eye of the beholder (or the reporter). :-5:-5

What does 43 + 67 make, Quinn?

Google can't find "Is the proposed economic stimulus plan a good or bad idea?", I'm not sure where it was from but it would appear to be either obscure or misquoted.

The same goes for "overall the poll found strong public backing for the plan".

It might be the Wall Street Journal.

Obama, Stimulus Proposals Enjoy Broad Backing in Poll - WSJ.com

The survey of 1,007 adults was conducted Jan. 9-12 and has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

As a whole, the nation's mood remains glum, with three out of four people surveyed expecting the recession to persist for at least an additional year.

Asked about the economic-stimulus package, now estimated to cost $850 billion over two years, 43% of people surveyed called it a "good idea," while 27% said it is a "bad idea." The rest didn't have an opinion.

I think "Stimulus Proposals Enjoy Broad Backing in Poll" refers to both pie charts, Quinn, not just the one you decided to assign it to.

At the same time, the survey suggests many remain concerned about the potential impact on the government's budget. Sixty percent said they worry more that the government will spend too much money and worsen the deficit, while 33% said they worry more that the government will spend too little.

A very interesting survey.......
