TV or toys

Whats the better show for young kids. I believe it's interactive television, such as Barney and Seame street. But now that I interduced tv, my son won't stop watching the same thing over and over again. He even knows how to work the dvd player. My husband and I have been working on a plan to get him interested in something else.
