Kathy ---please don't get upset when I ask, if you have friends in real life that you also communicate with on FG, why not email them, that way no one can irritate you. Much of the drivel on FG could best be communicated via email in my opinion. I have a wide range of friends and communicate with them via email not on a public forum where there are many subjects to discuss of a contoversial nature that will inevitably bring about disagreement. Just look at the list of interesting subjects that are listed on FG, Investing, Politics, Religion, Philosophy etc., and what do we get? WHAT ARE HAVING FOR DINNER? My personal preference is for thought provoking dialog and ideas. FG at one time was far more interesting than it is now, but I hang in there knowing that it will change as it always has. I guess the problem is that people sign on to FG for different reasons and when their expectations are not met they leave.

Lon, that's what makes this forum great...the diversity. Many of the topics you mention have their own sections for discussions. The way I see it "chit chat" means exactly that. What's interesting to one person may bore the next person to death. I'm here for many reasons and like the different types of topics, but at the same time I just want to chit chat with my dear friends here. :-4

Jester;1113754 wrote: I never said I was gonna leave Oscar, I said Im not going to waste my time trying to post on AA threads- and since very few threads aen't AA, I said I will probably be in the arcade when I come here.

You asked why americans dont post on british threads, Im answering why I, as an american, don't post on british threads- because the moment we do it turns into a bash fest or you start to turn it into a some kind of AA joke- In fact some threads that have nothing to do with politics get a slam or to agaisnt america.

You indicated earlier that your tired of 'holding back' as a brit for fear of offending an american- I find it unbelievable, given the number of slams coming from you that you're holding back.

Oscar give me one good reason why I should put up with the way a few of you brits look down on america? What possible positive thing could I take from hearing how terrible america is at every thread I open?

I dont think you or anyone else should have to curb what you say, but I do think you should be very careful HOW you say it and what you make fun of in the process. I'm not a real sensitive guy, seriously Im not, if its so bad that I notice it- its BAD.

This is an unfriendly place to americans. Like it or not Oscar, thats the ugly truth and it's not just me, ya see like you I got the gonads to speak up. But it's not going to do any good. It's too late. It is what it is, the garden has always reflected its members and the majority of heavy thread starters and posters are anti-american whether they realize it or not.

Just look how many americans dont post or have left- or only poke thier head in to add to the threds that discuss whetherthe previous post was anti-american or not.

And thats really all I can say in the matter, and I'm not mad right now, just talking matter of factly.

AMEN JESTER!!!! You know I agree with so many of your posts as far as loving our country, war, and religion and I'm so glad you have the gonads to speak out. One thing I disagree with in your post is that it's too late. I'm starting to see a rally of peace going on. So many of us here are getting sick and tired of all the bashing and the AA group. It's not just us Americans either...I see Canadians, Aussies and some English starting to get fed up with all the crap too. I'm hoping that soon the AA group will migrate to the polital threads where they're supposed to be.

Don't give up KE, we're starting a rally to put the political threads in the political thread area. I refuse to let the few that continue to bait and put down the rest of the people on the forum. It's time to get together and show a strong front against all this drama.

I don't get it. I consider myself a good loyal American and dislike unfair and unjustified critisism of my country. But Jester and Shelbell I disagree. I am sure I have read the same posts as you have and I don't believe them to be anti American. Please, copy one of the posts that you feel is anti Amrican and refer me to it. It seems to me that if any post finds fault with or critisizes Amrerican Foreign Policy, it's government, military or anything---------you and some others consider it to be anti-American. Hell, I find fault with many things our government does. Does that make me anti-American, or is it different if someone from another country?

No country is perfect Lon, but some of us here, actually a lot of us here, HATE the bashing. It's not the making of comments by some, but it's the constant bashing and the complete and utter failure to consider any Americans view point on anything. It's the same as what the radical far left are preaching too. Some of us here are patriots and we love our country and yes, take all the slamming and bashing personal. I believe that these political threads need to be in the section of Forum Garden specifically designated for politics so that the majority of the people don't have to deal with all the crap.

one reason why more Americans don't contribute to discussions about other countries is that when people have tried to on here in the past (and I can name names :sneaky:) we get told to mind our own business, fix our own problems first, etc. and it would just go downhill into a "pick on all the bad things about America thread"

also, I remember hearing or reading a quote a long time ago (I can't remember it verbatim...) that said if you add a 'but' to a statement it cancels the first part out.

I get tired of constantly seeing "we like you but we don't like your president/politics/french fries/whatever" It's sort of like telling your wife "I love you but your ass looks really big in those jeans"

Why is it, that us British, Scottish and Irish members seem to be clued up as to what is going on in America and current events and yet American members rarely comment on British politics?

Us British seem to know who is the secretary of state, the vice President, even what Senator represents what state. We know about the financial situation, the bail out, the near collapse of Chrysler and Ford Motors etc etc and much much more although some members are more imformed than others of course.

Yet if i were to ask an American member for eg: What is Ireland having a 2nd referendum over? or,

Who is our deputy Prime Minister?

Who is the leader of the opposition?

Who is leader of the Liberal Democrats?

What position does Tony Blair now hold?

What is British policy on troops in Iraq?

What is Prime Minister question time?

What is the Loch Ness Monster?

etc etc etc etc................... Would any-one know?

Why do we seem to take a keen interest in all American Political affairs yet we don't often see an American or Canadian opinion on British Politics?
