No stimulus for certain people..

Comment made by Robert Reich at a meeting on Jan. 7th.

I am concerned, as I’m sure many of you are, that these jobs not simply go to high-skilled people who are already professionals or to white male construction workers. ¦ I have nothing against white male construction workers. I’m just saying that there are a lot of other people who have needs as well. ¦ Criteria can be set so that the money does go to others, the long term unemployed minorities, women, people who are not necessarily construction workers or high-skilled professionals.

The money from the government to help build and repair our bridges and highways is not to go to white engineers or white construction workers.

We have about 456 Euro left though, so we just need another 123 billion if you have it in loose change. Just drop some into........

If it was just a silly press release, I wouldn't be so upset. But since it's something that was stating during a Ways and Means Committee meeting that was seen on CSPAN, I am suspicious.

I work with industrial electrical control systems, automation, robotics ect. It's highly specialized, I can rebuild the fuel injection system on my truck, the dashboard. I wouldn't know how to dig a ditch. I've never been in one. I've never built a bridge or even a doghouse for that matter.

Yeah I can adapt my skills have more than one application but what in the hell do you do when you have so many people out of work? What do you do when there's 1000 apps for one job?

People like me in America stand a good chance of becoming unproductive and not by their own fault either. A few years ago Seattle made a big celebration of 6 new cranes at the port.

They were made in Korea.

North or South? It's all politics today. Countries are more worried about currying favour with international allies than increasing their own GNP.

I understand what your saying. But to not let one whole group bid on jobs due to skin color is not exactly the way to go. The country does need to do something that creates jobs, but giving folks who do not have the required skills the job of building our roads and bridges isn't a very safe idea.

Honestly I think the root of the problem is that Americans have become lazy and want jobs that are easy money. Everyone wants, wants but isn't willing to work for it or save for it. We've become an impatient and unappreciative society. I hear people complain about there not being any jobs in our area, but at anytime I can open the newspaper classifieds and find several job openings. But most folks don't want to work as a maid in a hotel or trim meat at the meat packing plant. Those jobs are deemed beneath them. Which I don't understand, a jobs a job and if your in a desperate situation any money made is a good thing.

I don't think a Eisenhower or FDR approach of creating jobs is going to work. I think incentives should be created for companies that have set up shop in foreign countries. These companies should bring the jobs back to the U.S.

Also think it would boost our economy if we could produce most of our goods, instead of depending on China.

The bailout plan they are hammering out now confuses me. The whole contraception plan part of the deal has me scratching my head.
