mum allows boy of 3 to smoke the AA grumpy column

Post by pantoandy »

welcome yes its the one and only grumpy again rifling through the knicker draw of life to unearth another story.

and this i found in todays sun is absolutly shocking

A BOY of THREE was allowed to smoke by his mother, a shocked judge heard yesterday.

Kelly Pocock, 24, let the lad light up in his bedroom and around the house.

An astonished family friend saw him puff away while his mum was on the phone in the same room.

Worried Natasha Dudley, 25 — who said it looked like the youngster had been smoking for YEARS — used her mobile to film him.

She gave the footage to social workers who alerted cops. Pocock was arrested and charged with cruelty to a child under 16.

Judge John Curron said of the “appalling case: “This is one of the most extraordinary I have ever come across.

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees told how the friend had earlier looked for the youngster at the family’s home in Merthyr Vale, South Wales.

He said: “She found him under a bed with cigarettes. He was smoking one and Miss Dudley said it looked like he had been smoking for many years. When the boy was taken downstairs he went into the living room where he picked up a cigarette butt from an ashtray and smoked it.

“Pocock was on the telephone at the time so Miss Dudley decided to film the boy, such was her concern Pocock claimed she had not noticed him — and was “shocked.

But Judge Curron said the video proved her son knew how to use a lighter — and declared: “He would not have been able to smoke without discomfort unless he had acquired a habit.

The tearful mum pleaded guilty and was given a suspended 40-week prison sentence at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court — plus a 12-month supervision order.

She was spared jail because her children would be “emotionally harmed.

i hope that social services have removed this child from its so called mother and placed him in the safety of a care home.

what sort of mother would let their child do this ?

i have a 3 year old daughter myself and what she has let this child do is by any parents standards is unthinkable.

personally the judge should have given her the 40 weeks and the child should be placed on the at risk register .

and not given back to his mother untill she proves herself to be a fit mother and

has regular reported social services supervision .

Great quote from some movie I saw once:

‘You need a license to drive a car

You need a license to catch a fish

You need a license for damn near everything,

But any idiot can just go right ahead and have a kid’

So right Mike....

She certainly needs to be taught parenting skills, when mine were 3 years old, I always knew where they were and what they were doing as they were never out of my sight unless they were sleeping in bed and they mostly did that with us in our bed:-4:-4:-4

I wouldn't allow a child to smoke that young. At 3 years old, they can't hoover, wash dishes, scrub the floors, clean the car or anything to earn those fags. I'd wait until they were at least 5 years old so they could earn those ciggs.

It looked like the child had been smoking for years, the boy was only 3 years old for heaven's sake.

The tobacconist that sold him the fags is in trouble i bet.
