The high costs do not start there. They begin at kindergarten.
Though public school is available to all children, this covers only grade 1 through grade 12. Part-time kindergarden is also available free but his might be for 4 hours a day maybe 3 days a week.
To enroll your child in full time kindergarten, which is 9 am through 3 pm from Monday through Friday, the cost in our area is $2,000.
In our area right now most schools are nearly at full capacity for the Fall start date. My daughter was fortunate to be able to leave work today to get our grandson registered.
Twenty-five years ago we paid just $300 each for our girls to attend full time.

Kindergarten is just part of the school here. Pre-school is what costs us, unless you are low income, speak no English, or have a disability.

Today's pre-registration required a downpayment of $310 to hold the spot. Later in the year each child will be tested for their readiness to attend kindergarten and paperwork verifying all proper vacinations will be turned in.

That price is through the school and is alot cheaper than his all day daycare provider charges. Then again, he'll be 5 years old by then. There's a big difference between babies, toodlers, youngsters and school-agers.

That sounds like an out-of-hours club on the school premises which feeds the child breakfast if they're early and lets them have constructive play time after the last school lesson, possibly playing sports or listening to music depending on the weather. We had an after-school club at the primary school here, $2.50 a session sounds about right, we'd not have timed how long the children were there before being picked up.
