Half-blind date! Help!

Post by Clodhopper »

Ok, at the Wedding of a friend last weekend I was bouncing around in happy party mode, definitely not on the pull and cheerfully tiddled (by the end of the night - about 3am). Monday I got a call from the bride saying her friend and colleague had been badgering her all day to call me and ask for a date.

This sort of thing doesn't happen to Clods! The warts, hunch and mad rolling eyes make sure of that!:yh_beatup

I don't recall her, except a vague impression of brown curly hair.:yh_monkey

I'm meeting her at 6 this evening. Sheer curiosity guaranteed that.

Any advice? Serious or otherwise?

BTS: I shall keep saying that to myself all through the date*. Good advice from the guy peeing on the fire hydrant! ;)

* Um, thinking about it, won't she be a bit surprised to find me in the pub washing my smalls in a bucket? Not very experienced at this sort of thing.:wah:

Laughs. Yes I'm nervous, but then I should be! If I wasn't nervous, that would worry me far more.

What? Me half drunk and dancing ????? THAT's scary!

(Clods clambers back up the lamp post)

No. You're quite right. I'm just being bumptious.

Actually, the bit that worries me most is that I don't remember her, and things aren't right, and I have to reject her.:-1 Rejection isn't nice from either side of the equation.

But hey, that's the risk with a blind date, and the fact that someone has been prepared to take that chance has improved my mood immensely!

Why is she half blind? Does she wear an eye patch?

Jester (and others): It's that danged English Clodhopper playing with words again and not thinking that the phrases might not be in use in the US. We have two phrases we use over here and I mixed them:

"Blind drunk", ie so drunk you can't see

and "blind date" - meeting someone you've never met before where romantic developments are understood to be possible.

I was half drunk and half remembered her.:o

Anyway a pleasant evening, but no thanks.

Met in a smartish local pub, chatted, went for a Thai meal, chatted some more, all fair enough; no real meeting of minds, no real chemistry, she said she had to work tomorrow, I didn't ask for her phone number, saw her to the bus stop and waited for the bus, we didn't kiss, she muttered something about a text, hopefully that's it and no harm done.

But hey, what a boost at a the worst time of the year! :-6

kayleneaussie: No, don't have a car - the public transport is pretty good and it isn't necessary. She lives in the neighbouring suburb and using the bus is normal. Were she going far I'd have ordered a cab.

Oscar: Then I explain that I'm a wargamer and not really used to lumpy men like her, but that I'd heard they were really good at cleaning toilets and would she care to have a go at mine. Then I call the Police and run like hell.:sneaky:

Advice for future blind dates.

Always go with a friend if you don't know what they look like. Hide around a corner until you spy the datee. If they are a real minger...send your mate out to them to explain that you've been injured in a car crash and won't be walking again for several months, then run like hell.

To be honest, if i was on a blind date and they turned out to be a real minger, i'd feel sorry for them and wouldn't have the heart to be un-kind.

Your up very late for a British person. Are you par-taking of tiffin before you retire?

If i have much more dealings with gmc, i shall be speaking in some bizzare celtic language. The only person i know that actually writes in a way that you read it in a Scottish accent.

Gee Clodhopper, here I was hoping that things would turn out great and you would be dancing on top of the lamp post instead of climbing it. Heck we could have had a real romantic soap opera going here. You would have been filling us all in on what you did on your dates and where you went and asking us all for our female advice etc. Now you have gone and left the poor girl in tears. :wah: I can just imagine her sitting there crying into her handkerchief, wanting your body and knowing she will never have you. :-4:-4

LOL, some men are sooooo selfish with their bodies and their kisses.:-1

Half-blind date! Help!

Post by Nomad »

OH **** ! :wah:

Good luck man.

First dates are the worst.

I mean if your on your game and you can relax and just be yourself then the Gods are with you.

Personally speaking the Gods forsake me on my first dates.

I was a sheep in a wolves den. The sun eclipsed. It was like being airlifted and dropped into Bin Ladens himself private den on a holy day.

A first date for me was like that final walk down death row, dead man walking.

The hour before I picked her up was the worst. I would have been grateful if a building fell over on top of me.

I would have sold my soul to Satan to get a call from her that her grandma just died and couldnt make it.

But you know...just keep it light. Whatever you think Nomad would do or say do the opposite. Thats a good rule of thumb for everyone.
I AM AWESOME MAN
