The Rolling Stones to open the 2012 London Olympics

Post by Oscar Namechange »

Congratualtions to America on their historic wonderful Inaugaration day.

Now, us Brits have some-thing truely wonderful to look forward to in 2012

We are not only hosting the world Olympics but we have what has to be argued as The Greatest Rock Band in the world opening it for us.

Sir Michael Phillip Jagger and co will head what has promised to be the greatest show on earth.

London Olympics 2012: Gordon Brown promises greatest rock concert ever - mirror.co.uk

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Gordon Brown last night promised the greatest rock concert the world has ever seen for the opening ceremony of London 2012.

The pledge for a global spectacular to rival Beijing's came as London prepared to officially receive the Olympic baton in China today. The PM believes a line-up of rock legends such as Elton John, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones will provide a glittering celebration of Britain's talent.

A Downing Street source said: "Gordon Brown is determined to put on the biggest and best rock show the world has ever witnessed."

Last night the Prime Minister - in Beijing for the handover ceremony - said: "I think the Olympics in 2012 will be spectacular.

"Music and the cultural aspects of the Games will be very important as we move forward to 2012.

"In all these areas, where our creativity is leading the world, I think we will want to showcase that to the world when they look in on London in 2012."

Mr Brown also revealed he will campaign for Britain to have a UK football team - made up of the four home nations - competing in the London Olympics.

He said: "Britain is the home of football - we gave it to the world and I hope there will be a team in 2012."

Britain's record-breaking athletes were also given a royal seal of approval last night as the Queen described their success as a "golden triumph". She said: "Like so many people around the world I have followed their endeavours with great interest and admiration. To all the participants, and to everyone who has supported them so well, I send my warmest congratulations.

"As a nation we now look forward to holding the Olympics. The golden triumphs of the present British team can only serve as further inspiration to those who will be working hard over the next four years to make the London Games a shining example of Olympic success."

London Mayor Boris Johnson will today accept the Olympic flag in the handover ceremony in Beijing.

Brilliant :):)

They have to be Britain's greatest export, love them or hate them. To some of us Brits, Jagger is considered mightier that HRH.

You know he's knighted and a 'Sir' now??

Come on Nomad... Don't yer wish yer looked hot like Jaggs at his age??

A little un-known part of British punk rock history for you Nomad:..... Johnny Rotton..Leader of 'Malcom McClarens' 'Sex pitols' in the early 70's. A hard man eh??

Click on the link and check this guy out first. Jean Jaques Burnel of The Greatest british punk rock band 'The Stranglers' from 1979.

YouTube - jean-jacques burnel - Freddie Laker

Now this one.... come on Nomad.. it took me a long time to find this in the archieve's, do me the honour please.

THE STRANGLERS - FIGHT TURNED PRESS AGAINST THE STRANGLERS

Read the story... it's true and The Stranglers beat the crap out of them all. You see 'Hard man' Johnny Rotton didn't know at the time that Jean jaques Burnel was a black belt karate.:yh_rotfl

I was only thinking that as well tonight.

Charlie Watts still looks like an East End Gangster.

Ronnie actually looks a little better i think these days.

Keith looks like the grim reaper

But Jaggs has still got it :guitarist:guitarist:guitarist

Sure does.

Some people just don't get old. Reminds me of Tina Turner. She still has the legs and the moves too.

The Bizzare part of this mega rock and roll concert of the world, is i just can't imagine our Prime Minister Gordon Brown getting groovy. British Politicians are notoriously staid.

Perhaps it's all a cunning ploy by the government to stage the greatest show in the world in the hope it will take the spot light off how rubbish our athletes are :wah:

Co-incidence Ducks.... I just asked Pete if he could take a close up pic of my back stage pass on the Bigger Bang Tour so i could post it on here. I knew that if i just said i'd got one... nobody would believe me and you'd want hard proof :wah: I could post Jaggs Xmas card i got too but you would think i had made a spoof. No-one gets that lucky do they?

I did :D:D:D:D:D

I got a bag from Keith with his plectrums from The Bigger Bang tour all with bono fide logo etc. I was going to put them on e bay but have no idea of what to ask. There is about 5 of them so i could split them up.
