First day of school .....Homework?

Post by fuzzywuzzy »

My youngest came home from school yesterday (first day of the school year)

I asked him if he had homework he siad "yep. Here it is you better do it"

I'm like "what"?

He was right, it's my homework........Parent homework which has to be signed and dated..

I begin reading *my homework* and find a preamble . "no we cannot keep you in if you do not do this work, but we will send your child home with a 'recorder' that they have been instructed to play anytime they ride in the car."

:-2:-2:-2

my homework last night was to tell a story about my childhood. My son will then relay that at school in front of the class............I told him a story...........teacher will think twice about giving me homework again:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

I'm also going to write a full page summary in my childs homework book concerning the UN universal charter on human rights (that bit about threatening someone with cruel and unusual punishment.)

Threatening parents with a musical instrument played by their child is certainly in breach of this charter.

Tonights homework ? I hve to go for a walk with my son and have a conversation about three interesting things we see on that walk.

I swear !!! If I see a recorder in my childs schoolbag I'll be oranizing a protest outside his school.:wah:

An excellent idea - to those parents who spend time with their children it is no chore but to those who don't it teaches them to.

Too true Bryn. There's a couple at the school unfortunetly.

this is a regular thing for us though so it's not that big of a deal instead of the walk I'll take him for a Kayak.

There were other things, like play a board game, discuss a current event (which we do on a regular basis anyway.

It's simple things like this that kids seem to be missing out on these days .

But what I object to is the threat of a primary school child with a recorder....that's just wrong!!! And every parent here knows what I'm talking about.:yh_rotfl

Keehan has finished with the keyboard he's learning trombone this year.....OH MY GOD........MY EARS MY BEAUTIFUL EARS!!!!:wah::wah:

Oh dear chezzie sorry to hear that ....my condolences.... We call that the "dying cat instrument"

There's a really good stand up routine by Eddy Izzard on youtube . It's called "sexy tunes" and it pretty much sums up all school age children who play an instrument . Very funny. :)

Ah. the joy of returning to school. Teachers hate sending home those huge packets of info that have to be signed-but to threaten to send a nice little recorder home-tell them to send him home a sax or something cool! (made me shiver to read any kind of threat, not a nice way to start out the school year)

I refused to allow my kids any musical instruments . I told the teachers right off the bat first day , I wouldn't let my kid Thur the door if they had anything resembling an instrument so that meant my kid would have to live with the teacher while practising . I really jokingly told one teacher that ,but it was before my kid was old enough to be in band. i was lucky my 3 went out for sports ,so I has smelly socks and really grungy uniforms ,but it was quite while I did the laundry,,,,:wah::wah:

No chonsi all's good,:wah: we have a tiny school of fifty children, the teachers know the children and parents well, and can afford a bit of humour :-6 :)

keesies last report read: " As you know Keehan cannot be accused of over zealous behaviour in the neatness stakes"..............I sat there laughing and nodding my head.:yh_rotfl That's him alright and I'm glad they are not constantly on top of him about it . He's a bright kid and that's what they are more interested in . One of his reports read . something like : "we'll always find Keehan because of the trail of destruction left behind him.".........they speak the truth :wah:

Apparently learning notes and so forth helps children with maths. And basically they are learning another language. It's good for them but choose carefully. :wah:

We have two guitars a set of drums and a keyboard in the house .......but I never force them to practice . Music should be a pleasant experience and not dreary. My mother was made to play Banjo, to this day she still can't handle listening to 'Green sleeves' and 'little brown jug' :wah:
