Patrick Swayze stops Chemo to die like a man

Post by Oscar Namechange »

Patrick Swayze reportedly gives up cancer medication after doctors reveal nothing can save him | The Sun |Showbiz|Bizarre|USA

PATRICK SWAYZE has reportedly stopped all medical treatment for his pancreatic cancer.

The Dirty Dancing star has been battling the illness for 12 months, but a family friend of the actor has revealed he's no longer going to fight it.

The friend said: "There’s nothing more doctors can do for him.

"We are down to the wire and the goal now is to keep Patrick comfortable.

"His condition is inoperable and they have stopped the chemo. He’s still losing weight and he’s very weak.’

"Patrick regards himself as a cowboy, and is determined to die with his boots on and no regrets."

What a waste of a brave talented man. I shall always remember him. I hope he doesn't suffer too much.

This brings to light an issue that will take effect here in Washington state. The right to die.

Initiative 1000 passed here. In short it says that an individual has a right to refuse to go on. The person must be terminally ill in the opinion of 2 doctors and be of sound mind. It's very controversial. The largest healthcare provider in the area essentially said any doctor who participates in any way in this act, even at the request of a patient, that doctor will not be allowed to practice in their system.

Kudos to Pat. I hope I have a choice.

We have similar going on here and is a big issue

I didn't hear about Initiative 1000 and no wonder............ it got lost in the other news of November 4th of last year and all that has followed..........

Has anyone considered testing this yet?

The religious groups say it's immoral and inhumane. Bulls**t, having terminal cancer and dying slowly while they pump chemicals into you at astronomical cost is immoral and inhumane. It also deprives you of the ultimate freedom to choose.

Here, the doctors do not have the right to carry out a treatment against the express wishes of the patient even if the refusal will speed up the death of the patient.

To force you to accept treatment you do not want is unethical - to then charge you for it is obscene.

There's a certain point of care and condition of the person where the Person should always have the right to choose.

The medical field will most likely tell the Person to continue with this & take that, knowing the out come. $$$$$

If Patrick feels at this point that the Medications will not be in his favor & chose to stop - then God Bless Him. Savor the time you have..

I haven't read this here yet - so - I'm sure all females here will agree Patrick was so easy to look at - handsome - chizzled face - good looking man..

Here's to choice

Having watched my father take 4 years to die from cancer, watched my sister die of breast cancer and my mother die, paralysed from a stroke, I'm in total agreement with you. My father in particular just went on and on even after he had refused any more treatment. I have to say in all honesty that after they died, i was relieved for every one of them. I didn't want them to go another day like that.

As an animal lover, i would not allow my animals to suffer in such a way. Can you imagine keeping a dog alive payalised, blind and partially deaf?? No. Yet my mother was expected to live like that.

It is totally wrong. I know that my mother wanted to die and no-one will ever persuede me differently.

I'd be interested if you have any more on what's happening with euthenasia.

that's sad but it was obvious from some of his comments to Barbara Walters that things probably weren't looking good for him. :( I think everyone should have the right to choose what they do with their own bodies.

ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

no one should have to go thru a long and painful death.

watched my FIL at home for 2 weeks straight drugged up on morphine, my god, it was sheer hell on him and the family.

24/7 around the clock, two of us would sit with him.

my horrible MIL would not give him the morphine, she wanted him to talk to her.:-5:-5

like he ****ing cared!:-5:-5

-he would just nod when we asked if he needed more.:-5:-5

Thanks Ally and i'm sorry to hear you have had to watch your sister and Dad die as well. This is another aspect of assisted suicide and euthenasia that these so called experts don't take into account..... the families who have to watch them waste away to nothing. Watching this can seriously damage your mind. I remember when my dad was dying, i just wished he had a massive heart attack and went quickly. It is such a cruel disease.

My sister was so young and i'll never forget the sight of her children throwing red roses onto her coffin as they lowered her in. She took a long time to die and her children should never have had to watch that.

Yes, she missed out on alot.

I think Patrick Swayze is very brave stopping treatment. No-one knows what it's going to be like until they are in that position. My dad stopped his treatment. He was 80 when he died and i remember him telling the Doctors not to waste their time on him and give it to the children instead. After that, he was just on Morphine. My husbands little boy ,Barry, from his first marraige died at 4 yrs old from a very rare form of cancer in the prostate muscle. His last words were 'Daddy, how do they make fires in heaven?. He took two years to die after surgery and chemo. I'm sure if Pete had a choice back then, he would have ended his suffering. We only just found out that my husbands cancer has returned as well. I seem to be surrounded by this awful disease but then i have so much to be thankfull for.

I hope Patrick Swayze doesn't suffer.

Thanks Ally but i don't think it's a case of being brave, more that you just have to get on with it. I can't change anything but we are very positive. They gave him 9 months to live two years ago but he had a wonderfull surgeon who got all the cancer out. There was always a very high risk that it would come back as it was so far advanced. We were always expecting it to come back as they can't get cell level out. He is due to have a scan any day to see if it's spread. He gets very tired which is why i'm on here alot lately. I don't like to go out if he's at home feeling rough. We still have a lot of blessings and have to look to those. We laugh a lot as well which is the best medicine.

Thankyou for your kind words. :-4
