blitz on crossing idiots the AA grumpy column

Post by pantoandy »

hello here i am again yes im still alive and ranting !!

( i thought we,d got rid of you ! editor )

and a subject i have been intrested in for many years trains

AN idiot dodges death by inches as he runs in front of a 75mph train.

The express clipped off his SHOE as he jumped a level crossing in Rainham, Essex.

Network Rail released the shocking CCTV images to highlight the dangers of ignoring lights and barriers.

Another picture shows a red Vauxhall Corsa nipping in front of a train in Llangadog, Wales.

The driver’s wife — who was beside him — was so traumatised they moved house to avoid using the crossing again.

Network Rail is urging judges and magistrates to “stamp down” on offenders.

Chief executive Iain Coucher said: “Every week people ignore signs and lights or drive round barriers just to save a few minutes “This behaviour has the potential for massive damage, disruption and death.”

Last year, there were 3,400 incidents including 20 collisions between trains and cars A total of 15 people were killed.

they are very lucky but very stupid people i bet the drivers wife gave him an ear bashing when he got home.

i used to work for british rail and gave my time voluntaraly to quite a few preservation societies so i can write with some authority on this.

i have seen people walking down the middle of the track oblivious to the presence of a train i have also seen animals hit by a train and the mess they make i was on a train that hit a horse that had strayed on to the line .

railways are now run for profit and not the public unlike BR days when all crossings where controlled by a signalman cum crossing keeper and in the latter days by remote control in the name of progress but in BR DAYS THE RAILWAYS WHERE STILL SAFER.

now they answer not to the public but to the shareholders.

i agree we must hand out stiffer penalties to these idiots who endanger not only their lives but other peoples and renationalise the railways now.

I saw this in the Mirror last night.

Amazing footage of people cheating death in level crossing near misses - mirror.co.uk

If you haven't seen these video's already... do watch them as they are frightening.

Another beef i agree with about the railways is a recent article in one of the papers about the abuse Railway staff come under from yobs. I can't remember who but they were calling for staff to have special licence so these abusers are prosecuted.

I grew up with level crossings and when the lights flashed and the siren sounded, you waited. These people are idiots.

They need to be prosecuted.
