Spot is not a Mod an can be ignored just like anyone else - if you don't like a post then report it and the Mods will adjudicate one way or the other.

The problem you have is in thinking that you own a thread - once you've let it loose in the garden it will flutter here and there like a butterfly and you have no control over where it goes.

To put the record straight Bryn.....It was my thread about 'Was the moon landing an elabortae hoax' that Themis and Daniyel were critised on. I put the thread on in the hope that it would attract posters who could debate it as i was of an open mind. Themis is correct when he says that he came on to give his opinion and got insulted. However, he does not feel that he owned the thread as it was mine and i was glad of his input.

Themis.....Spot was a mod but until very recently when he announced on the forum that he was standing down. Many others missed his announcement also.

Yes i can see how Bryn could have mis-understood.

It does not excuse members feeling they are so far imformed above others, that a member feels he has to leave because of it.

What unsupportable tosh. Where do you see evidence for "feeling" or "above"? I'd love to see Themis make coherent sense once in a while, I really would. He's more informed than I am.

I can't remember how many times he's left in the past and then rejoined but if I had to guess it's six. What you're watching is the fat lady bringing down the curtain on yet another act of the opera. The drama is more exciting than simply posting here is.

I will try.

It does not help when you get this kind of pompous nonsense posted on a thread that is supposed to incite debate:

Perhaps if remarks like this were kept out of threads headed under 'conspiricy theories', Themis and anyone else who has an alternative view point may not feel they are being mocked.

I'm surprised you interpret her post that way, I didn't. The Multiverse is an interpretation of events, it's of use to the extent that it provides insight into the way we are and the way the world works. It's no more real than any other interpretation such as the single-path timeline universe it's contrasted with. Her post generated an interesting response from Galbally saying much the same thing. If you find it "pompous nonsense" than that's your reaction, I'm sure it's not intended by the poster.

As you say Spot.. .. 'The Multiverse is an interpretation of events'. I just happen to be one of the Multi that views what she writes.

Ah. My mistake was that I'd thought you'd found it to be pompous nonsense, in which case you'd seen the possible applicability of Multiverse to the thread (not that I think it has any) rather than mocking. If you now tell me you saw it as mocking then I feel rather misled but that's nothing new.

She's deliberately winding up as many people as she can because she thinks it's what forums are for. I'd try to work round the edges until she regains normality if I were you.

http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/consp ... ost1137146 has the nearest I can find to an explanation. "I'm just feeling particularly mischievous tonight. The beginning of the thread descended into mockery..... I am merely giving some vile tasting medicine here".

Putting people on ignore is just stupid... you should be allowed to stop people posting in your thread..

Themis, let me reply very specifically to what you are saying.

Firstly Oscar started a thread about the moon landing and that it was a hoax, I disdain conspiracy theories in general and I very clearly stated why I though they are generally laughable. That is a perfectly valid opinion, and I am entitled to it, you might not like that, but I have as much right to state what I believe clearly as you do. When people disagree with me on scientific issues, I don't respond by claiming victimization or that I am going to leave FG.

When I outlined later on in that thread about what the scientific method is, and why its my general position on dealing with these issues, I was called a "smart arse", which I laughed off, of course I could have gone into a funk and accused Oscar of making "fun of my beliefs" but I didn't because I don't personify myself with science, it just a way of thinking.

However, in response to my general comments, you responded by posting in my profile saying I had somehow personally "insulted" you when I had not posted any response to anything you have said, or called you an "idiot" or anything else.

Your trying to make me take something seriously that I don't by emotionally blackmailing me because you are "hurt" by my opinion. Now your threatening to leave FG, which I have asked you not to do, and I have repeatedly told you that my opinions are not about you as a person, I don't know you, so why you are taking it on yourself to become so "offended" it's beyond me.

I didn't call anyone any name, however in the course of that thread I was called an idiot by Daniyal, as well as several other similar comments, as was spot. This was mostly because we didn't pander to just accepting this vague notion that we are not allowed to express our attitude about the risible nature of conspiracy theories without being told we are "hurting" or offending people who believe in them. However, its perfectly acceptable to call me an idiot, or arrogant, or ignorant etc when I presume to give a rationalist response to conspiracy theory ideas. Wow.

So, essentially I am not allowed to give my perfectly valid opinion because your taking it upon yourself to personify conspiracy theories, (as yourself) and when we criticize them, somehow we are criticizing you.

Its like this, you are free to believe in these sorts of things and post on them accordingly, if I don't believe in them I am perfectly entitled to say so, you can't claim personal damage from my attitude to a general set of ideas. I have witnessed many fights and arguments on FG, and sometimes I have even been on them.

I think that in general I try to be as fair to everyone as I can, and I try to keep a level head when dealing with various issues. I'm not perfect on that, but I do my best. I don't normally pursue these sorts of clashes, but this time I am not going to allow myself to be stifled on this board by passive-agressive bullying.

If you want to make a complaint to moderators then go ahead and do so, I will respond accordingly, I feel your being completely unfair and your trying to stifle other people's opinions by emotional blackmail.

If you can't deal with other people's opinions on a general subject, then I am sorry, but you should be able to argue your points without resorting to threats related to your emotional state, or walking away from FG to make it look as if your being bullied, because your not.

Firstly Oscar started a thread about the moon landing and that it was a hoax, .

Secondly, just to set the record straight.... Oscar posted a thread about the moon landing which quoted a newspaper article claiming it was hoax. At no time did i say i was in agreement with the article or in disagreement. I posted it merely to get opposing views as i was of an open mind.

So ner :p:p

There's a bit you don't get. Simply posing the moon landing in the context of a hoax is a grotesque insult to the thousands of engineers who spent their professional lives in exchange for the most ambitious and successful science project ever attempted. What I think you fail to see is the anger people who understand what happened feel for people who don't in circumstances like this. Another person might get the same feeling if a parent's grave were desecrated by hooligans. The chief reaction is to ask why people like that get to vote in elections if they can't behave rationally.

If there were no such catagory entitled 'conspiricy theories' then i could understand your umbrage. The mere fact that there was such a catagory long before i joined this forum suggests to me and i suspect others who have posted under that catagory, that members enjoy debating such theories.

If it causes you such wrath that i have raised a subject that has been debated by many better minds than ours for many years, then I am sure the Moderators will remove the thread should you ask.

I was not aware that the catagory 'Conspiricy theories' included all subjects barr the moon landings or any other topic that may get your goat.

What i do see from the thread, is other members other than you or myself joining in the debate. Infact, I do not see your umbrage so overtly displayed to Fuzzy who also stated on the thread that she believed it was a hoax..as an example of one.

As i stated on the thread and to galbally on this thread, I have always had an open mind as i do on many many such theories. I have not stated that i agree or disagree. I found the article in one of our newspapers and posted the article merely to attract other view points. Surely, that is what a forum is for, is it not?

You may be insulted by the inclination that the subject has a remote possibility of being a hoax but i'm sure no other members are equally as insulted.

I am not a scientist in astro-physics there-fore i hoped by posting the thread, I would learn a little more. You seem to have taken exception to such a notion. That is a great shame as i believed this forum was tolerant of any view point.

Ironically, after i posted the thread, I had to google a little on the subject and was quite surprised to see the wealth of sites on the net that have been debating the moon landings for many years. No doubt you will be in touch with each and every one of them to expose your umbrage?

Meanwhile, I shall go back to the last link you posted on the thread for me as although it may surprise you, I found it of interest.
