"The French Admiralty did argue with us for a while that it should have been several nautical miles away, but we reminded them that modern GPS methods are more accurate than the sextants they used in those days," said Mr Hawkins.

It's being claimed the German U-64 sank her. I bet it was a British submarine making the most of the opportunity and we all just said it was German afterwards.

By contrast, for a hint of how little news there is today, the lead story on the BBC News Website at the moment is "Girl, 14, burnt in tanning salon".She left the salon in pain and was later taken to hospital where doctors told her she had suffered first degree burns, the lowest level of skin burn. She was put on a drip and given oxygen while doctors rehydrated her and administered painkillers.

Kirsty, a pupil at Bishop of Llandaff High School, Cardiff, has since been released from hospital and has returned home although she must apply lotions to soothe the burns every few hours.

I hope she feels more comfortable soon.

This is almost on the scale of the infamous "Hamster missing in Dorset" story.

19 March 1917

Danton, French, Danton class Pre-Dreadnought Battleship

Torpedoed by German submarine U64 in the Mediterranean with the loss of 806 lives. After the attack U64 lost trim and broke the surface where she was lucky to avoid damage from French destroyers before diving again.

Nicked that from a site called, World War 1 Naval Combat.

We were, after all, doing the same to their ships at the same time. You'd not expect them to sit back and watch, would you?
