If you are a smoker and somebody asks you to please put the cigarette out, would you? If you are a non smoker would you ask that person to put it out?

When I was a smoker I would always be cognizant and courteous of those around me. I'd stay downwind whenever possible, or if indoors I would make sure my cig was OUT when I crushed it out. Even then I hated when people left a mangled cig still smoldering in the ashtray.

Now that I don't smoke, I almost never feel imposed on by a smoker. If a smoker stops nearby upwind, I try to find the easiest solution. Usually that means taking a single step to be out of the way, but if I felt it necessary, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable talking to the smoker. They're usually as courteous as I was when I smoked.

If someone asked me to extinguish my cigarette Id probably stare them down with my eyes squinted and not say a word until they started feeling uncomfortable.

Then Id duct tape and blindfold them and throw them in my trunk and drive 2 hrs out into some really deep wooded area.

Id tie them to a tree and leave a tape recording of growling bears nearby.

Id come back to get them in 3 days and rip the duct tape off and squint some more then ask them if we had an understanding.

Id give them a ride back into town and tell them I was just kidding.

I'm not a smoker, but both my parents were (dad no longer smokes) so I was brought up being chuffed at....

I don't mind being in the company of smokers at all, however if I were in a small enclosed space such as a car, I'd like to think the smoker had enough consideration not to light up there... if they did, in a situation like that I would politely ask that they didn't smoke.... If they didn't, I wouldn't moan about it... I'd just think twice about being in the company of someone so inconsiderate again...

I thankfully haven't come across any smokers like that though...

I am a non smoker.

I cough when around smoke. Sometimes it is a gagging choking cough. My bright red face and the sweat upon my brow "sometimes" stop the smoke, but not always. Some just look at me like I've got something awful I'm going to infect them with..................

We have rules in our family. We don't smoke in any house where children live.

We don't smoke in cars if one of the non-smokers is travelling with us.

If i was in a public place and some-one told me to put my cigg out, I'd tell them to go away in less polite terms. If they start on me i give them a 10 minute lecture about the crap that comes out of their exhaust pipe.

Id tweak that and infer the crap that was coming out of their mouth was nut unlike the noxious fumes from their exhaust.

When I used to smoke I was aware of other people.

I would say I am lighting up & then it was their choice to stay or move.

I still love the smell of a freshly lit ciggy;)
