Were pregnant!

Post by Odie »

We had bought a 28 gallon hexagon tropical fish tank around a month ago with communality fish. Community fish are fish that are not aggressive.

We now have a female guppy pregnant!:guitarist:guitarist:guitarist:guitarist

Guppy's are live bearers, which means they drop their young , not eggs.

You will see in this video she is in a separate compartment resting in the tank, so when she gives birth, her young will fall to the bottom compartment, so she cannot eat them. I will then put her back into the big tank, and raise the babies in this compartment until they are big enough to survive in the regular tank.

This is how she will have them:

Let's hope if she has fourteen she doesn't end up on food stamps, but the good news is that somewhere in that tank is the father.

I guess so......that is why she died.....sometimes if they get to stressed, they loose them and die...........she was so stressed lying at the bottom on Saturday, he was breathing harder than I have ever seen a fish breathe.

I know its only a fish, but I watched her grow and took good care of her.:(

I had her in the separate tank.....but they said to only keep her there for 2 days.......so I kept putting her bank and forth......then finally a week ago, I thought.....this is just to stressful and she hadn't given birth.

she grew really big in the tank, but those damn males!:-5:-5

and guppies are like rabbits..they can get pregnant right after giving birth........so the next one stays in the little compartment where no one can bug her.:D

Ah Odie, this sucks!:(

We used to have fish and I know it seems out of proportion, but you do get excited for them and wait for the new ones to arrive like a grandmother..

sometimes it seems the males are interested in a female to the point you want to shoot them.. I've pulled the males out before because it was driving me nuts watching the female try to evade them...lol I felt sorry for her..:D
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Ahhhhh Odie,

I'm so sorry...that's so sad. May she rest in peace.

I had a fish tank in my 6th grade class, and we didn't realize that a guppy was preggers. When she gave birth, she kept popping them out and the other fish kept eating them. It was so sad as there was nothing I could do...it was too late. So, I put a blanket over the tank so the kidlets couldn't see it.

I know better now...

oh noooooooooooooo!

yes, when they are pregnant, which is quite often, next time, you can buy a plastic compartment...........it sits in the tank, and when the fish has her babies, the babies drop down into another compartment so the mother cannot eat them...then mommy goes back into the tank.....babies will remain in there for 4 months, just don't forget to feed them............3x a day for tropical fish.

any fish stores even wal-mart sells the duo compartment.......5.00
