Adding a spark to FG....

Post by Kathy Ellen »

Hello FG members:-4,

Just sitting here thinking about our Forum. It just seems to me that we need a wee spark to liven up things here and put a smile on everyone's face.

I think that so many members are working too hard with their jobs and family/friends obligations and problems, and need a break to just be silly and have some fun.

Where did our fun go I wonder:rolleyes: I loved when GMan started the "Unofficial FG Scavenger Hunt." That was a brilliant idea and brought so much fun to members and a lot of spending money in the casino. Unfortunately, it ended on a sad note for some members due to misunderstandings. Thank you for our fun times there GMan:-4 I had a ball and look forward to more of your fun ideas.

I also loved the Foc'er Big Brother House, Chezzie's fun posts, and Pam, Betty and Theia's cardy thread...:-4

When AussiePam, Okie and I belonged to the Virtual Irish Pub we went on imaginary trips and had a blast. I remember one trip........I had been away to Ireland and returned home only to find out that everyone had set sail for a journey to a far away land and left me behind. I ran down to sea and cried for the ship to return to bring me along.

Thankfully, our Pam was playing her flute and dancing her magical dance when she heard me cry for help. She immediately had the crew turn the ship around to pick me up for the journey. We set sail for parts unknown and had a blast. Fortunately, we had members in the VIP pub who knew how to organize graphics and had perseverance to get all on board.

I've seen so many good ideas for fun here that just went by the wayside. I for one will pay careful attention and try harder to join in on the fun more. Unfortunately, I worry too much about work and miss so much in FG. I keep thinking of all the times that Along for the Ride tried to take us on a journey....like her camping trips with scary things happening....

Wouldn't it be great if we could all go on a journey together.. For instance, Ducky is planning a trip to Ireland this June. Maybe we could take an imaginary trip to Ireland and scope out places for Ducky and family to visit:-6Ducky could even join us without telling her family so she can plan events for them and look like the big shot:wah:

Just a thought for a bit of fun....Tuck the idea into your pocket for a rainy day maybe:D

As they say.....IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO MAKE FUN HAPPEN......

Maybe someone will start a fun thread and we'll all join in....or not;)

Dear Kathy.

I think a lot of us are having a tough time right now. There isn't much to smile about - except for a thread like this which reminds us that there are some truly lovely people out there. You've made me feel better just by posting it.

Thankyou.

Good thinking..... I have a couple of new cardi's Theia would be envious of :D I must entice her to meet me at the uni campus, I keep meaning to visit but she is just far enough away from campus for me not to be able to make it and be home in time for the school run :(

We must revive our thread, St Pirans Day is nearly upon us.

:) I agree with you, Kathy. I believe that especially now, in these uncertain times, people are indeed stressed out. Many of us are not sure if we will still have a job at the end of the year. Many of us don't live near our families to share moral support. Many of us are on a tight budget that seems to be getting tighter and tighter. So.............we come here to the Forum Garden. We share our thoughts, our fantasies, our news and hope we don't get lost in the Forum and that someone will notice us and respond.

I have noticed that many folks have read my threads but have not reponded to them. That's okay with me. As long as I have given the reader a smile, or a few moments of a fantasy, or something to think about, I'm good. ;) Everyone is always welcome to come along for the ride with me.

Thanks for this thread, Kathy. I guess we all are "waiting to exhale." :)

Oh Betty:-4

Me thinks that you and Theia need to start up your inn again. I really need a place to chill and relax by the fireplace. Somewhere nice where I can sip Pinot Noir and enjoy a wee sweet cigar, and just chat with you all. Pam will bring her flute to play and we'll all sing some Irish songs:lips:

I hear you, Kathy!! I've had a few tries lately to post something lighter - and have ended up deleting what I wrote as it has invariably been jumped on or swamped. But you're right, all of you - maybe we shouldn't throw in the towel. I wasn't going to delete my account, just not come in for a while, or if I did, maybe read and not post. It's a bit like giving up smoking - I'm living with someone doing that right now, so it's in the forefront of my consciousness. A peek into FG is like taking a small puff .. on the way to total quitting.

And of course things are tough right now... grin. In fact I feel a blues song coming on. ... Hey, that could be a good sign. .. :sneaky:

Woke up dis mornin - nothing good in de news

Done woke up dis mornin and pawned me best shoes

FG's lost its sparkle

And I'm plum outta booze..

:D

So - now I've sung for me supper - does this thread have a fridge full of champers and can you spare a dime... er flute of Bolly??

Hello Along,

I really loved going on your camping trips even though I hate camping:yh_rotfl.

I had so much fun, and then "Life" happened. I have to make life slow down and go on more trips.

Perhaps you could start a new camping adventure....something scary and fun...but near a 5 star hotel just incase I need to chill a bit more:wah:

I'll be there this weekend if you start a new story...promise:-4

I'll come camping. Might as well... can't swim here any more without being eaten by sharks, so let's go camping and get eaten by bears instead. It's at least different... GUFFAW.

I could bring my flute and play anti-bear Irish tunes.. like Rickety Tickety Tin... or Maids When You're Young Never Wed an Old Man... or make the bears cry with Danny Boy??????

Do we have to eat squirrels? I love squirrels and would prefer pizza...

Pam, I wish you could post some of the adventures you and the group have taken us on in the VIP. We had so much fun, and we need to be happy again in FG.

Last year we were in a slump, and I tried to post a fun thread about taking a trip to Bikini Bottom to visit Sponge Bob. One member here made fun of me , and I deleted my thread. Well, damn it...I won't do that again. I think that I'll post a trip to Bikini Bottom maybe this weekend for all to scuba dive with me to visit Sponge Bob, Patrick, Mr. Crab and Squidward and have some crabcakes at the Krusty Krab.

I used to sing it religiously, Clodhopper, every time I drove between Sydney and Canberra when we went over Razorback Mountain. How appropriate is that?!!! Since the new freeway, other drivers are now deprived of my open-windowed musical enthusiasm... :D

Good song though - I find myself singing a lot of Tom Lehrer lately. !!!

Spongebob has reached Down Under, Kathy, and is in fact still a favourite with Small Person. Do we get to dig out our bikinis for this caper? Or can we swim wearing just a grin and maybe a few coral flowers?????

Kathy: I'll leave it to Pam to judge if this is the right time to post the lyrics. It's a horrible song (therefore much loved by children :wah:) - what makes it funny is Tom Lehrer.

Anyway, off to bed now - with a smile on my face.:)

Clodhopper is correct. The song is NARSTY and therefore totally wonderful if you feel like clobbering someone. I've written a lot more verses actually. Of course I'm really a total lamb and wouldn't hurt a fly. Any stories that I've torn people that get up my nose limb from limb and cast their sorry rearends into the Pacific Ocean are exaggerated. That time an irritating poster ended up stuck to the top of the London Eye was nothing to do with me. Lots of other people were probably also carrying superglue. And anyway, at the time I was at the Joisey Shore probably dancing on the bar in Klees. With the very handsome Mr dubs's uillean pipes playing.

On which subject.. my final assignment for my third year of Irish language was on uillean pipes!! A noble instrument which, as I noted at the time- unlike it's larger Scottish cousin - enables a player to make music and sing at the same time.. even Rickety Tickety Tin - and of course also chat up the ladies. :sneaky:

St Piran's Day. I'll be in that... always thought it had something to do with toothy grinning fish in Amazonia but now I've read wikipedia and become enlightened.

There's a fantastic Goodies episode - Bunfight at the OK Tearooms

The Goodies - Bunfight at the O.K. Tea Rooms | Beverages

which probably has nothing to do with St Piran, but there's scones and jam and clotted cream and that strangely powerful British drink which Theia contains in her name arghghghghghghhghg

Those old VIP days were fantastic, Kathy - and we sure did have some tremendous adventures. I think it happened largely because - by chance or fate - three or four very creative and okay, eccentric people had somehow stumbled into the group. And when put together, they produced a spark greater than any of their individual capabilities. And we were all caught up in magic. I had the scripts of all our mad capers until recently (yep I saved them!!). In the move, they got ceremonially consigned to the flames.. but I danced and raised a glass of wine to the memory. There's no going back, unfortunately. But who knows.. the future is full of possibilities. Maybe we'll fashion some new magic. I'm up for trying.

Here's an interesting thought from my Saturday (I've got friends coming over for lunch on Sunday, so today I went to Manly instead). On the radio this morning, a presenter asked a local librarian how long one should stick with reading a book. The librarian replied that this was something she'd thought about a lot over many years and she'd come up with a working answer. Life is too short to waste too much time if you don't absolutely have to read the book (like for an assignment). She suggested that you subtract your age from 100 and read that many pages. If you aren't totally caught up by then, chuck the book and choose another. Not bad !!!!
