Thanks for posting this for me OM. I did actually see this in the Telegraph last night and declined to use it. Even though fox hunting is banned, there are still many who would kill them given half a chance. They are still tagged with the old fashioned lable of vermin etc and i often come across stories where they have been shot, poisoned etc and it's why i'm a little suspicious about giving up the location of mine. Even the foxes before the pack i've been feeding for yeras now, were shot with air-rifles by kids. If they were to publish the gerneral locality of them, there is a chance the idiots who like to think they are big game hunters, could go after them. It's unlikely, i know, but i'm not risking it. I want to know alot more about why exactly they want to know where they are first.
Thankyou for thinking of me though :-6

That's fair enough. Animals have as much right to be here as we do. The RSPCA are involved with this though. Do you think they would do anything to endanger the foxes?

Although the RSPCA are wonderfull at what they do with domestic pets, they are also know for culling. Feral cat colonies in particular. I just have a bad feeling about it all. There has never need to have been a census before..... why now? It could be a way to regulate numbers.

this report might remove the belief held by some that foxes packed their little bags and moved to the towns to get away from hunting when it was legal !!
they get injured in accidents, eat things that are not good for humans let alone wild animals and as said in the report contract fox mange and die slow and very painful deaths.
my dog picked that up from the fields by our main car park.......... it cost me a fortune at the vets and he was really poorly with it.

There is a site on line i can get for you...... it's in MR O's pc in favourites. Tou send them your adress and they send you back a bag of white powder. You put it in a jam sanwich, something foexes are very partial to and which no other domestic animal will take, and it clears the mange within a week stopping foxes passing it on to domestic pets. It's free of charge and if anyone needs it, i will post it up here. :-6

sorry, im not a big fan of the rspca !!!
several times ive phoned and reported things but nothing was done about the situation and on the last occasion, when a neighbours chickens were literally dropping dead in front of me from starvation and neglect, as i was speaking to an rspca officer on the phone, i got got asked what made me such a great authority on animals !!!!!!!

The article does mention that their population was last assessed in 1995. But I respect your intuition. Nonetheless, this count is going to be conducted and we will see what happens after. I've no doubt that we won't be informed of their actions until after they have acted.

I wasn't laughing at you. I thought I was laughing with you. We are animals too in case you forgot. We just happen to have something that other animals don't have - a conscience. At least, some of us have.
