If this doesn't help me then nothing will

Post by fuzzywuzzy »

This is all I ever wanted ...encouragement and facts. Not bloody scare tactics and excuses. If you invite failure in, then you will fail. To be told that withdrawal is a bad thing instead of a good thing then you'll be firightened into not quitting.

The past few weeks have done a great deal for me . I'm not so frightened of doing things anymore I'm confident and know I can achieve things. I've seen real fear and it just doesn't equate anymore to the fear I had of giving up smoking.

I've just read through this and quitting finally makes sense .................this honesty and simple explanation has taken the fear out of it . I know I'm going to be irritable but I'm going to enjoy it because now I know what's going on in my head and what the psychological and pyshiological symtoms really are. all I have to do is relax and allow my body to heal. To get back to how it used to work.

This thread will be my diary . Probably best to be passive or I might bite your head off in days to come ...............but it just means I'm getting better and healthier !!!!!!!!:driving:

Good for you fuzzywuzzy! Big BIG hugs for being so brave! :yh_hugs:yh_hugs:yh_hugs

Remember to take it one day at a time, one hour at a time or even ten minutes at a time. If you can get through ten minutes when you're desperate, then try another ten minutes and another ten. Take all the help offered to you. They have even got special tubes you can suck on now so you have the 'feel' of the ciggie in your mouth.

Just think, on the positive side you won't stink like an old ashtray now :D you'll be able to enjoy the taste of food again soon :D you won't get all those horrible little lines around your mouth when you get older :D and you'll have extra cash to treat yourself with! :D:D:D

You go girl! You rock! :D

i'm going to have bad breath as the nicotine leaves my body and the cells in my mouth throat and lungs heal. Also the rotten and dead cells make you have bad breath too. that's interesting I never thought of that. and bleeding gums will occur because of the healing process *more blood will flow to my mouth membranes. I am so stoked to know that because I thought I was already sick but the bleeding gums is a GOOD thing, it just means I have more oxygen in that area. .:-6

Thanks OM read that page though it's very helpful and takes the fear out of giving up .

I believe cold turkey is the best way in the end. You sure don't want to have to go through that again.

WOW this is trully fasinating. I did not know this . This is what I mean by telling the truth of the matter. I awlays wondered why I smoked more when I was drinking . or stressed.

Apparently your urine during stress becomes acidic and draws the nicotine out of your body ............so you have to replace the nicotine. Alcohol also makes your urine acidic and draws on the nicotine to do so ............again you have to replace the nicotine!!!! WOW!!! So i'm not a nutter it's just that my urine needs the nicotine. bloody hell why didn't anyone tell me this years ago. this was my weak point ................I need a smoke because I'm stressed I need a smoke because I'm drinking. bloody hell . Now i understand what's going on is easier to combat it.

Yeah Kazalala I like things explained to me . The 'fear factor' has been taken out of the situation.

That's the problem OM those kind of pics don't have any effect on me.

what the heck you are entitled to being a crabby arse

Fuzzy - I have just been part of a quit program in the house. My daughter had to give up before surgery. She cold turkeyed as she reacted badly to the patch. For three whole days and nights she was miserable, ate lots of sweets and wouldn't come out of her room much except to change DVDs which she'd stocked up on. On the fifth day she felt a lot better and went out for a walk. On the seventh day, we all started to breathe again. And since then she's been back to her sunny self. Reckons she feels incredibly much better, but still misses having something to do with her hands. On day 10 she went out drinking with old college mates who are smokers and said the smell made her feel sick. She wasn't tempted to smoke. That was just under three weeks ago. She had the surgery this morning - all good - and I'm just going back to the hospital to see her.

I think it's good to know what you're in for, and to know also that the suffering part does end. Very best wishes.
