13 firms receiving bailout owe taxes
The committee said it could not legally release the names of the companies owing taxes. It said one recipient had almost $113 million in unpaid federal income taxes from 2005 and 2006. A second recipient owed almost $102 million dating to before 2004. Another was behind $1.1 million in federal income taxes and $223,000 in federal employment taxes.
Neil Barofsky, special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, told the hearing that if an executive signed a contract knowing that information about unpaid taxes was false, "that would potentially be a crime." He said his office will look to see if crimes were committed
Well i'm sure glad some one sees a potental for a crime being committed , I mean gee whiz who ever heard of signing a government dovument and lying on it not being called under penalty of perjury or something to that effect .
Last month it was handing out our tax dollars to compaines handing out bonases . then
last week it was Obama wanting to make our Vets pay for thier own medical bills for duty related wounds. and
now it seems companies that haven't paid thier taxes have thier habds out for our tax dollars. After lying on the forms to apply for the bailouts.
these bailouts just keep getting bnetter and better??? NOT !!!

It seems these companies have been promised a bailout but haven't received it yet.

Oh. Sorry - I was referring to the not paying of taxes. Isn't that tax evasion or something, or can US business defer their taxes if they feel like it. :-2
It's sometimes semi-jokingly said over here that the USA isn't a country, it's 50 Business Parks, but deciding not to pay tax would really be taking the p***.

oh , my mistake I figured you had read the article. It only mentions the ones in the paragraph I posted as they owe the most out of the 13 . so it was bush that was president while they weren't paying thier taxes.

Yes, I'd read the article. My point was that these tax dodging misdemeanors had happened under Bush, but you seemed to be ignoring that to blame Obama for the bailout. Now, I don't pretend to know whether the bailout is a good or bad thing, but it does seem a little one-eyed to have a go at Obama for the bailout, and not have a go at Bush for an administration so lax they manage to "forget" taxes on that scale.

Is the "bail-out" money supposed to help the American people or the big finance companies?
Just asking.

Please show me where I said it was Obamas fault. I mentioned 3 things and only named obama in one of them.

As you say, there's only one name there - Obama - and this is all happening during his term in office. It certainly looks as though you are blaming him for all three. Do you not hold your President responsible for the actions or inactions of his administration?

I hold him responsible for cleaning up the huge mess he volunteered to take on . But I've been disappointed before,, but he still got 1381 days to go , so time will tell.
This was 100% complete Obama
last week it was Obama wanting to make our Vets pay for their own medical bills for duty related wounds
these haven't got the money yet so if they slime by and get it without no problems well this also will be 100% Obama if they gotta pay up their taxes and come clean well also Obama.

I found the bailout contract /agreement and it was an ongoing thing when Obama took office so he can't be held responsible until after it came out that the money was used for bonuses instead of whatever the original excuses was. It's gonna take a long time for me to get Thur all the mambo jumbo and big 59 cent words those kinds of papers use...

Federal Reserve officials knew for months about bonuses at American International Group but failed to tell the Obama administration, according to government and company officials, exposing problems in a relationship that is vital to addressing the financial crisis.

Well, if I were made king for a day I would do two things that I believe would go miles toward fixing this prob and preventing a future one.
1. Corporations would no longer have rights of citizens, and would not be able to participate in the election process or lobby legislatures. As an entity, a corporation should have no rights. The citizens who own and run it have plenty.
2. Corporations would not be allowed to grow "too big to fail." It would take some calculating, but some kind of formula would be developed to strike quantifiable limits beyond which a corporation could not grow. The company would have to break into two or more independent companies to continue growing.
The first item would mean these contributions of hundreds of thousands or even millions of virtually anonymous dollars would not be possible.
The second item would increase employment, competition, innovation, etc.
Ah, to dream. :-6

That is the one thing I have been keeping in the fore front oh my thinking,, that it is being made3 public now ,, and everybody that knows anything about government knows everything takes 3 times longer and has to be done in triplicate ,, so even though all the links lead to Obama some of this could be someone else's piles of craopola.
Like that site that has the memos of Bush and cronies re writing parts of our Constitution for his own convenience and advantage,,,
don't get me wrong some of this crap is directly Obamas ,

I was sort of adding things up and got to thinking , Obama s luck just could not be so bad that everyone he talks to or trys top nominate and taken money has a problem with back taxes. So I'm figuring it has to be more along the lines of everyone in politics and most everyone in BIG business don't worry to much about their taxes. If this is true them the old saying about the big wigs letting the little guys carry the load is shining in a whole different light. If a very large percentage of the multi million dollar politicians and the multi billion dollar CEO of companies haven't been paying taxes and if we the little guy had a way of checking into it and if need be somehow collecting all the back taxes with late fees and fines applied .America would be in the black within a few months and every one would have would they needed to exercise our right to the pursuit of happiness. with a lump sum left over for our kids collage ....
# of the companies that owe back taxes that have gotten a bailout payment the total of the 3 together was a very long string of numbers . I don't remember the amount but it was impressive .
